iPhone Fold rendu CAD

The iPhone Fold has sparked immense curiosity. Up until now, there has been much speculation about its design and features, but no visuals had been revealed. That has now changed with a leak that provides a first glimpse of Apple’s upcoming foldable smartphone, showcasing its rather unusual dimensions.

It’s becoming clearer that the very first folding iPhone—often referred to as the iPhone Fold in our reports while we wait for its official name—is expected by 2026. Even though it has not been released yet, Samsung is already worried about losing its crown to Apple in this market segment and is adjusting its strategy for its next smartphones: the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8.

Indeed, the upcoming foldable iPhone has been the subject of several leaks: rumors suggest it will be a design marvel, priced similarly to a MacBook Pro, and could herald the return of a beloved technology at the expense of another. This time, Apple’s future flagship is revealed in a first rendering based on CAD files (computer-aided design) and technical drawings intended for accessory designers, as reported by our colleagues at GSMArena. It’s safe to say that they display surprising dimensions—to say the least.

The Apple foldable iPhone would be wider than it is tall: a radically different choice

According to various rumors, Apple has aimed to stand out by shunning the typical square internal screen format so that, when unfolded, the smartphone naturally enters landscape mode—a format that might immediately support iPad apps.

What’s particularly striking are the proportions: the internal screen would measure 7.76 inches diagonally, while the external screen would be 5.49 inches—their respective resolutions being 2,713 x 1,920 pixels and 1,422 x 2,088 pixels. When folded, the iPhone Fold would measure 120.6 x 83.8 x 9.6 mm; and when unfolded, it would measure 120.6 x 167.6 x 4.8 mm. It would thus be more wide than tall: a radically different choice—and almost counter to the trend—compared to its competitors.

The technical drawings also suggest an under-display front camera on the main screen, while the selfie sensor would appear as a punch-hole on the external screen. As for the camera block, it would resemble that of the iPhone Air, but it would feature two side-by-side cameras—whereas Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date features only one.
