Apple’s Plans to Redefine Siri into a Full-Fledged Chatbot with iOS 27

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is set to transform Siri into a fully functional chatbot in the upcoming iOS 27, positioning itself as a direct competitor to ChatGPT. Codenamed Campos, this feature will be deeply integrated into the operating systems of iPhone, iPad, and Mac, replacing the current Siri interface. Users will be able to access it in the same way they do the voice assistant today, by saying “Siri” or holding down the side button on their iPhone or iPad.

The revamped Siri will offer capabilities such as searching the web, creating content, generating images, summarizing information, and analyzing downloaded files. It will utilize personal data to perform tasks and locate specific files, songs, calendar events, and text messages more easily. The chatbot will have deeper integration with Apple’s apps and will remember past interactions to better understand the context of user requests. Mark Gurman notes that Apple plans to limit Siri’s memory for privacy reasons.

iOS 27 Unveiling and Siri’s Evolution

This development in iOS 27 is expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June, shortly after the release of iOS 26.4. This earlier version will mark Siri’s first major evolution operating on Gemini models provided by Google, following the official announcement of their partnership last week. The spring release will leverage Apple Foundation Models version 10, a variant with 1.2 trillion parameters from Google’s AI models, and it will operate entirely on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers with Apple Silicon chips. For its chatbot, Apple is considering hosting servers equipped with Google’s Tensor processors to enhance performance with Apple Foundation Models 11, which will largely be based on Gemini 3.
