Google’s AI Model to Support Apple’s Intelligence Services Next Year
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Google has developed an AI model derived from its Gemini project specifically tailored for Apple’s needs. This model will be hosted on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, dedicated to Apple Intelligence. The arrangement ensures that the model will maintain the same level of privacy as Apple’s originally developed systems.
The Nature of the Google-Apple Partnership
This collaboration isn’t intended to integrate Google’s features into Apple’s offerings but rather to support Apple-designed functions: “I do not expect either company to make public announcements about this partnership, and we shouldn’t anticipate Siri to start incorporating Google services or Gemini features that are present on Android devices. It simply means that Siri will be powered by a model capable of delivering the AI functionalities that users expect, all within an Apple user interface,” stated Gurman.
Gurman had previously hinted at this development in August, but it was unclear whether Apple would completely replace Siri’s engine with Google’s or if it would be a hybrid approach, with Google only enhancing Siri’s more advanced capabilities. His latest statement leaves room for speculation but suggests a complete overhaul of the Siri engine. As per the latest updates, the rollout of new Siri features is still expected in iOS 26.4 next spring, a year behind the original schedule. This update is anticipated to include a “response engine” that would enable web searches similar to those performed with ChatGPT.
