Apple is not slowing down its pace. Recent leaks suggest an even busier iPhone release schedule than before, including plans for a foldable iPhone and an ultra-thin model.

For many years, the release of new smartphones has followed a predictable pattern, mainly focusing on the end of the year. This consistency has allowed major brands to establish anticipated annual events. However, it also limits the impact of each release. To rejuvenate interest, some companies are looking to break this cycle. Spreading out release timings helps keep public interest alive and distributes sales pressure throughout the year.

According to two reliable sources cited by our colleagues at 9to5Mac, Apple is planning to significantly change its iPhone launch strategy. The plan for the coming years includes more models released in two separate phases. The goal is clear: to expand the range while keeping public interest engaged throughout the year. This strategy also aims to reinvigorate sales, which, although high, have plateaued recently.

Apple to Unveil iPhone 18 Fold in 2026 and Prepares Six Models for 2027

The year 2026 will be a pivotal one with the launch of the iPhone 17 in the spring, followed by four models in the fall: the iPhone 18 Air, the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and notably, the iPhone 18 Fold. This model will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a sleeker design with the front camera integrated directly into the screen. The 18 Air will maintain its compact size while being thinner than current models.

In 2027, Apple plans to accelerate its pace even further with six new iPhones. Two entry-level models — iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e — will launch in the spring. Then, in the fall, the high-end successors will follow: iPhone 19 Air, iPhone 19 Pro, iPhone 19 Pro Max, and the second generation of the iPhone Fold. This two-wave release strategy aims to spread out announcements and boost sales throughout the year. The 19 Air will feature a larger screen, while the Pro models might completely eliminate any visible cuts for the camera. Apple is thus ushering in a new era with more varied designs, unprecedented formats, and its broadest range of models ever.
