Introduction to Apple’s Upcoming S11 Chip
The upcoming Apple S11 chip, set to be featured in the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3 next month, is reported to continue using the same T8310 architecture found in the previous S9 and S10 chips, according to a discovery by MacRumors in Apple’s code. While this suggests that the core architecture will remain unchanged, there could still be improvements in certain areas such as increased RAM capacity, but no major leaps in power should be expected.
Potential for Enhanced Apple Intelligence Features
A key question surrounding the new chip is whether it will support advanced Apple Intelligence features. Achieving this would likely require a significant increase in RAM, as the current Apple Watch models are equipped with only 1 GB of RAM, whereas at least 8 GB is needed for Apple Intelligence features on the iPhone.
There have been mixed rumors about how Apple plans to implement these features. Mark Gurman has hinted at the possibility of leveraging remote server capabilities through cellular connections or an iPhone nearby, while The Verifier suggests that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 might exclusively offer local processing capabilities due to a more generously equipped RAM chip compared to the Apple Watch Series 11.
What to Expect in the Upcoming Reveal
We expect to have more concrete information next month, possibly as early as September 9. For more details on what to anticipate with the new range of Apple Watch models, be sure to check out our upcoming articles.
