Google has blurred the lines between iOS and Android by making its Quick Share feature compatible with Apple’s equivalent technology, AirDrop. Currently exclusive to the Pixel 10, this enhanced interoperability is reportedly causing an annoying bug for some users.
Last week, Google achieved a significant feat by unexpectedly announcing – much to the delight of users – that Quick Share now works with Apple’s AirDrop. This increased interoperability between the two file-sharing systems is currently limited to the Pixel 10, but Google plans to “expand it to more Android devices” and has reportedly secured a significant ally in this endeavor: Qualcomm.
While there was speculation that Apple might try to hinder Google’s progress, it appears that the Mountain View-based company doesn’t need Apple’s interference to encounter problems. Indeed, the update to the Quick Share extension not only enabled AirDrop compatibility. According to several Pixel 10 owners, it also introduced a rather annoying Wi-Fi bug.
Quick Share: AirDrop Compatibility Leads to Frustrating Wi-Fi Issues
Several users who installed the Quick Share update enabling AirDrop compatibility reported that simply opening the Quick Share menu disconnects their smartphone from Wi-Fi – that is, even before they attempt to send or receive a file. According to reports from Android Authority, at least one affected Pixel 10 owner mentioned that their Wi-Fi network list would become “completely empty” when accessing the Wi-Fi menu while Quick Share was open. However, it seems that not all users are experiencing this peculiar bug.

Regardless, following these reports, various Google services started pointing fingers at each other. Some users reported the issue on the Pixel Phone help forum, where a product expert closed the discussion thread and directed Pixel 10 owners to the Google Issue Tracker. Meanwhile, those who had turned to the Issue Tracker were sent back to the Pixel Phone help forum, while a Google representative marked the problem as “will not fix (obsolete)”.
Colleagues have reached out to Google regarding this bug and the potential rollout of a fix but have not yet received any response. In the meantime, some users have mentioned that uninstalling the Quick Share update resolved the Wi-Fi bug – but this is clearly not ideal as it means losing compatibility with AirDrop.
