Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reiterated on Sunday that the redesigned MacBook Pro with a touch-enabled OLED display is expected to be revealed “by next month.” He had previously mentioned a lighter chassis, and he emphasizes that point again: Apple is aiming for a noticeably reduced weight. According to Gurman, the company has reworked the laptop’s internal layout—shrinking some components and reorganizing others—to make the machine substantially more portable. For reference, the current 14-inch MacBook Pro weighs roughly 1.55 to 1.62 kg depending on the chosen chip, while the 16-inch model sits around 2.14 to 2.15 kg.

The forthcoming machines are still planned to ship with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips; Apple reportedly halted development of M6 Pro and M6 Max to speed up work on the M7 generation. That shift would allow Apple to rethink the Pro models’ thermal design without having to rely on TSMC’s 2 nm fabrication node. The switch to OLED should also let the display be slimmer, cut power consumption, and deliver improved contrast. Screens are expected to grow by about 0.1 inches and will include a touch-sensitive layer, with a version of macOS adapted to accept finger input as well as traditional mouse control. The front sensor notch is likely to be replaced by a Dynamic Island-like feature borrowed from the iPhone, and Apple may, for the first time, offer cellular connectivity options.
Because these new parts and design changes raise manufacturing costs, Gurman notes they are not expected to immediately replace the existing MacBook Pro lineup—at least not until 2028.
