Electronic invoicing is already mandatory for incoming invoices. Magniv Pro includes support for it in every plan — even the free tier — so freelancers can comply without switching banks.

The reform for electronic invoicing took effect on 1 September 2026. Small business owners and freelancers, who will soon have to issue invoices in the new format, are asking two practical questions: what exactly must an invoice include to be compliant, and which tool allows them to produce those invoices without spending every evening on administrative work? Magniv Pro, a French invoicing application aimed at independents and small companies, positions itself to answer both questions.

Electronic invoicing: a one-year grace period to issue, immediate obligation to receive

Micro-entrepreneurs are not exempt from the electronic invoicing reform. Even if they benefit from VAT exemption under the franchise en base regime, they remain subject to the system and therefore must both receive and (eventually) issue electronic invoices, the Ministry of the Economy reminds. The authorities have however indicated a tolerant approach during the initial rollout.

Micro-entrepreneurs must adapt to new reception and issuing obligations under the reform.

It’s important to understand that an electronic invoice is not just a PDF attached to an email: it is a structured data file that must be routed through an approved transmission platform registered with the tax administration. Billing software without that certified status — so-called compatible solutions — needs to connect to an approved platform. Magniv Pro has chosen this route and links to the certified Super PDP platform, preferring to focus its development on the user interface. Sending and receiving electronic invoices is available across all its plans, including the free option, so any freelancer using the service is covered for the reception obligation that is already in force.

Key dates for electronic invoicing

  • 1 September 2026: obligation to receive electronic invoices for all companies; obligation to issue and transmit data (e-reporting) for large companies and very large firms (ETI).
  • 1 September 2027: obligation to issue electronic invoices and e-reporting for SMEs, small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs.

What details must appear on an invoice

The reform changes how invoices are exchanged, but it does not alter the substantive information that an invoice must contain. Between businesses, an invoice should typically include:

What mandatory fields and new data points an electronic invoice must include.

  • The issue date and a unique invoice number, assigned in a continuous chronological sequence,
  • The names and addresses of the seller and the buyer, together with the date of the sale or provision of services,
  • For each item or service: the quantity, a clear description, the unit price excluding VAT, and the applicable VAT rate,
  • Totals excluding VAT and totals including VAT,
  • The payment due date or period, the interest rate for late payments and the statutory lump-sum compensation of €40 for recovery costs.

Micro-entrepreneurs under franchise en base must add the phrase “VAT not applicable, art. 293 B of the General Tax Code.” The reform also introduces four new mandatory data points: the client’s SIREN number, the delivery address if it differs from the billing address, the nature of the operations billed (goods, services or both), and, if relevant, the option to account for VAT on the invoice date (debit-based VAT option).

Magniv Pro automates many of these tasks that can otherwise be time-consuming: the app connects to INSEE’s database to retrieve customer details automatically, which is handy now that the customer SIREN is required. VAT calculations are performed automatically, including on estimates that mix different VAT rates.

Invoice clients without being a bookkeeping specialist

Full-featured business management suites tend to be complex and price-tagged for larger organizations. Several online banks offer invoicing modules too, but those are typically available only to their own customers. Magniv Pro is bank-agnostic and focuses solely on invoicing.

The maker emphasizes simplicity: an invoice can be created in a few clicks from a catalog of pre-saved products and services. Accepted quotes (estimates) convert into invoices without re-entering data, and down-payment invoices can be generated in three clicks. Each estimate shows its current status (pending, accepted or rejected) and the outstanding amount to be invoiced. Branding elements — logo, colours and images — can be customised so documents feel more personalised.

“A freelancer shouldn’t need to buy a full management suite to issue a handful of invoices each month, nor be forced to change invoicing tools when they change banks. We do one thing — invoicing — for users who aren’t accountants,” explains Magniv Pro.

Invoices are sent by email directly from the interface, with a unique link that gives the client access to the PDF. Up to five team members can be invited to the same workspace. An Admin profile can create and edit documents, while an Accountant profile has read-only access to the history and VAT data. Multiple companies can be handled from a single account. There is no dedicated mobile app, but the web interface adapts smoothly to smartphone screens.

Get paid faster and monitor receipts

Every invoice generated produces a payment link. Clients pay by card on a secure page powered by Stripe, which can be themed with the issuer’s colours. When the payment is processed, the invoice status updates automatically to “paid” and the user receives an email notification.

For a standard European card, transaction costs are 2% of the total amount including VAT plus €0.25 per payment; of that fee, 0.5% goes to Magniv Pro. Payments made by bank transfer do not incur any fees.

The dashboard shows the status of each invoice (paid, pending or overdue) alongside the client’s logo and displays turnover month by month. The complete invoicing history can be exported in CSV format.

Reasonable pricing with no paywalled features

Magniv Pro does not restrict any core features in its free plan. The three subscription tiers differ only by billing and client limits, and the top package costs less than €100 excl. VAT per year. Pricing is designed to remain accessible both for someone starting out and for a small established firm. The company is French and states that the service complies with GDPR.
