Photoshop introduces a dedicated workspace for prompt-based editing in its beta version, while retaining its precision tools, which have been enhanced by Firefly Image 5.

Light Adjustment Layer and Prompt-Based Editing Without Manual Selection
Photoshop now includes lighting adjustments previously associated with Camera Raw in the form of a dedicated adjustment layer. This layer features six sliders for managing light: Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks. Like any adjustment layer, it can be modified or deactivated later without altering the original pixels.
The “guided modification with masks” changes the way edits are targeted. The Firefly Image 5 model processes the entire image before making any changes, which eliminates the need to manually outline the area of interest. Commands are given via a prompt, whether it’s “opening closed eyes or adding a hat to a person identified in the frame,” according to Adobe. Anything not masked remains unchanged, a feature Adobe highlights as particularly useful for faces and logos.
The “AI marking” tackles the same issue differently. Instead of describing everything in writing, users can manually annotate the image. A solid color might indicate an area to be recolored, an arrow could point to an element, and a rough brushstroke might mark what needs to be added. This makes the instruction graphical where a prompt alone might leave room for interpretation.
Additionally, two new features relate more to layout. Dynamic text now works with any custom shape or path, following curves without needing to redo formatting with each change. Photoshop also introduces a dockable Adobe Stock panel, providing access to a visual content library directly within the software.
AI-Assisted Editor, a New Workspace in Photoshop
The AI-assisted editor is a major part of the announcement. Adobe introduces a second interface in Photoshop, still in beta, organized around a prompt bar and a set of generative tools. It is fed by most of the AI models available on the market. This space is optional and exists alongside the Pro Editor, the software’s traditional interface.

- Edit via a prompt, which applies a textual command to the image,
- Remove background, including edge retouching,
- Generative expansion, to enlarge the frame and fill the new space,
- Remove, to make an object disappear,
- Generative fill, to add or substitute an element,
- Generative upscale, to increase resolution.
The “Edit via a prompt” feature is not confined to this new space. It is also accessible from the contextual taskbar of the Pro Editor, applicable to the entire image without prior selection. Each edit achieved in this manner is stacked as a generative layer, hence reversible.
