Mark Gurman Reveals New Siri Overhaul Details

Today on Bloomberg, Mark Gurman provides fresh insights into the highly anticipated revamp of Siri, powered by Gemini, which is set to be unveiled at WWDC 2026 on June 8 and will be part of iOS 27. Known for his reliable sources, Gurman notes that Apple’s voice assistant is expected to morph into a chatbot for this release, featuring an interface similar to those of ChatGPT or Gemini, along with a dedicated app that allows users to access a history of their conversations.

The Evolution of Siri’s Interface

Gurman had previously mentioned last month that the visuals Apple used to promote WWDC 2026 drew inspiration from a new lighting effect that will play a central role in the new animations. With iOS 27, Siri would be positioned within the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, highlighted by a glowing white animation around the assistant’s panel.

By swiping down from the top of the screen, a “Search or Ask” bar would then appear in the Dynamic Island. This would enable users to conduct an internal Spotlight-like search, but with more precise results and additional data pulled from apps. Furthermore, users could press and hold the search bar to switch between Siri and third-party services such as ChatGPT or Gemini. This search bar would also feature a microphone icon on the right for voice mode.

Enhanced User Interaction with Siri

During interactions with Siri, users could pull down a transparent result card to transition into a chatbot-style conversation that would closely resemble chatting in the Messages app. This interface could also incorporate mini-apps for checking the weather, upcoming appointments, and notes.

Gurman reiterates that this new version of Siri would indeed include the highly anticipated “answer engine” he has discussed for months. This feature would fetch general knowledge information from the web, providing detailed answers in list formats and including large images.

Dedicated Siri App Features

Lastly, the dedicated Siri app would display conversations in a grid of elongated, rounded rectangles. Users could revisit old conversations and resume them at any time, with the context preserved. A search bar would be available to filter through conversations, and a “+” button would be present to initiate new discussions. Within a conversation, another “+” button would allow users to submit images and other documents to Siri. The input area would be labeled “Ask Siri,” including a microphone icon to switch between typing and voice input.
