On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Anthropic announced on its X account that several of Claude’s flagship features were now freely accessible. This development comes as OpenAI, its direct competitor, is exploring new funding sources by gradually introducing advertisements to free users and ChatGPT Go subscribers in certain regions.

Anthropic Unlocks Three Key Features of Claude for Free
Having captured the spotlight by announcing in early February that its free version would feature no ads for now—a stance highlighted during a Super Bowl commercial—Anthropic continues to set itself apart from ChatGPT by leveraging free access.
This Wednesday, the American company made several of Claude’s advanced features available at no cost, including:
Skills
Introduced last October and previously only available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, Skills are essentially specialized instruction packages that enable the conversational agent to perform specific and repetitive tasks, such as creating reports or presentations. In practice, the user sets their preferences for structure and style once, provides typical examples, and integrates them into a Skill. Claude then automatically applies these guidelines whenever it “mentions a task related to the name or goal of an existing Skill,” explains Anthropic. The aim is for it not to have to repeat the same instructions in each new conversation.
Third-Party App Integration
Free users can now interact with a series of third-party applications that have been integrated with Claude since the end of January. Specifically, it is now possible to create presentations with Canva, generate charts with Amplitude, or draft messages on Slack. To activate these applications, users simply go to the Settings, click on Connectors, and then press the Connect button at the top right of the interface.
Document Creation and Editing
The free version also now includes document creation and editing capabilities, powered by the Sonnet 4.5 model. Available on desktop, web, iOS, and Android versions, this feature allows users to co-create with Claude Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word files, or PDFs. These documents can then be downloaded locally and edited in other software. “You can create financial models in Excel with functional formulas, perform advanced analyses on downloaded data, produce reports with graphs and visualizations, and generate presentations from your documents, all without specialized software skills,” states Anthropic on a help page.
Anthropic Rolls Out ‘Compaction’ Feature to Extend Conversations
On its X account, Anthropic also unveiled the deployment of the ‘Compaction’ feature in the free version, enabling Claude to manage longer conversations and prevent losing track as it approaches its context window limit. Essentially, when activated, Claude automatically condenses older messages into a summary, allowing the conversation to continue.
While theoretically extending the duration of use, this feature does not eliminate the stringent usage limits of the free version. As previously explained in an article, Anthropic applies a threshold based on five-hour sessions, which automatically reset. The quota of allowed requests during this period, which can vary depending on their nature, is not publicly disclosed.
