The New iPad Pro M5 Unveiled by Apple
Yesterday, Apple introduced its latest iPad Pro M5, which boasts a significant new feature relating to external displays: the device now supports 4K external displays at 120 Hz. This enhancement is described as perfect for creative workflows, such as video editing, and for gaming. Despite this advancement, it’s worth noting that Apple’s own external display currently only supports up to 60 Hz. This may hint at the possibility that the next Studio Display could feature a 120 Hz refresh rate—a speculation that is quite tempting to consider.
Upcoming Apple Displays
It is known that Apple is developing two new external displays, codenamed J427 and J527, with at least one of them featuring the new A19 Pro chip. These are expected to launch by early 2026, possibly alongside the next generation of MacBook Pros equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. A major feature of these upcoming displays could be the adoption of a Mini-LED panel, which would likely support ProMotion technology, enabling smoother animations at 120 Hz. Although the iPad Pro M5 might be limited in resolution—since the Studio Display boasts a 5K rather than a 4K screen—it represents a significant improvement, especially for gaming.
