Pixel 10 Confirmed: Set to Feature iPhone’s MagSafe Equivalent!

The upcoming Pixel 10 smartphones are indeed equipped with magnets, enabling them to utilize all the benefits of Qi 2 wireless charging, a feature similar to iPhone’s MagSafe.

Currently, only one Android smartphone, the HMD Skyline, supports magnetic wireless charging, a feature that has been quite popular on the iPhone for several years. Google is now poised to introduce a comparable technology in its devices, starting with the Pixel 10 series, set for release in August.

Leaker Evan Blass recently shared a promotional image of a new wireless charger designed for the Pixel 10, which appears to operate with the help of magnets. This system offers two primary benefits. Firstly, the phone aligns itself with the charging station through magnetic attraction, simplifying the positioning process for the user. Secondly, optimized placement on the charger minimizes energy loss, thereby reducing consumption and enhancing charging speed.

Magnets Built Directly into the Pixel 10?

This image confirms earlier reports that the Pixel 10’s wireless charger would support the Qi 2.2 standard and Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) technology. There were concerns that Google might follow Samsung’s example with its Galaxy S25, which does not have built-in magnets and only supports magnetic charging through a special protective case. However, the marketing image shared by Blass displays a bare Pixel 10, without a case, using the mentioned charger.

Another factor pointing towards the native inclusion of Qi 2.2 with magnetic features is a design shift in the Pixel 10 compared to the Pixel 9. The new models are expected to be slightly thicker and heavier. While manufacturers typically aim to reduce the size and weight of their smartphones, it is likely that the addition of magnets is responsible for this change.

Thus, the Pixel 10 could become the first Android smartphones, apart from the rather obscure HMD Skyline, to offer a MagSafe equivalent. If this is the case, it is expected that Google will heavily promote this feature during its upcoming product launch event scheduled for August 20.
