Galaxy Z Flip 7

Samsung is making a comeback with two versions of its flip-style foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. We cover availability, pricing, new features, and design in our comprehensive guide to these new devices.

Samsung has successfully revived the flip phone style with its Z Flip foldable series. This device has seen improvements over its iterations, including a more functional outer screen and a sturdier hinge for flipping the screen open and closed. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 introduces a more affordable variant: the Z Flip 7 FE. Join us as we explore what’s new with these models.

When will the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE be available?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE were unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025. Pre-orders started immediately after the event, with the Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE set to hit the shelves on July 25, 2025.

How much do the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE cost?

Despite fears of a price increase following the hike with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in 2024, Samsung has maintained its pricing for the latest models. As a reminder, the 256 GB version was priced at 1,199 euros upon release, and the 512 GB configuration was available for 1,319 euros. Here are the prices for the new variants:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 (256 GB): 1,199 €
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 (512 GB): 1,319 €
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE (128 GB): 999 €
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE (256 GB): 1,059 €

Bigger screens for both models

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is slightly longer and notably wider than its predecessor, the Z Flip 6, while maintaining the same thickness. Dimensions have increased to 166.6 x 75.2 x 6.9 mm from 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm. This size increase is due to the integration of larger screens, both for the main display and the cover display.

The main screen of the Z Flip 7 has increased from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches, approaching a 22:9.5 aspect ratio, less elongated than the 22:9 of the Z Flip 6. The external screen measures 4.1 inches, up from 3.4 inches. The more compact FE version features a 6.7-inch internal screen and a 3.4-inch external screen.

However, there’s no improvement in the screen-to-body ratio. In fact, it’s slightly worse on the new Z Flip 7 at 84.7% compared to 85.5% for the 2024 model. This was likely a compromise to accommodate a larger screen without significantly increasing the phone’s overall size.

Both models continue to feature Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The maximum brightness remains the same at 2,600 nits for both devices.

The design of the Z Flip 7 retains much of its essence, with flat edges and a hinge that allows the smartphone to fold like old flip phones. However, this hinge has been improved to reduce the creasing on the screen.

It’s worth noting that both models are IP48 certified, making them water-resistant but still vulnerable to dust and debris, similar to the previous version. Unfortunately for those hoping for an IP68 rating, it’s not the case here.

Performance powered by a Samsung chip

The introduction of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE ends much speculation, though not in the most favorable manner. The two foldable smartphones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2500 processor. Thus, there’s no Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm for these models.

The Exynos 2500 was previously rejected for the European Galaxy S25 and S25+ due to low production yields. A few months later, Samsung appears to have resolved this issue, although the Z Flip series, being less popular than the Galaxy S25, does not face the same production challenges.

If you opt for the more affordable Z Flip 7 FE, you’ll have to compromise on raw power as it features the Exynos 2400, the same chip found in the 2024 Galaxy S24 and S24+.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 comes with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, consistent with its predecessor and the minimum for high-end models to adequately run local AI functions. The FE model, however, is equipped with 8 GB of RAM.

Larger battery capacity for improved battery life

Samsung has recognized that battery life is a significant issue with this range of mobiles. The Z Flip 6 features a 4,000 mAh battery, up from 3,700 mAh in the Z Flip 5. The Z Flip FE also sports a 4,000 mAh battery, while its bigger sibling benefits from the seventh iteration to boast a 4,300 mAh battery—a welcome improvement.

This enhancement should lead to better battery life, which was already decent in the current model. Unfortunately, the fast charging speed remains unchanged, with 25 W wired and 15 W wireless charging capabilities for both the Z Flip 7 and its FE variant.

No changes to the camera setup

The camera department remains unchanged: the Z Flip 7 continues with the same sensors as the Z Flip 6. This isn’t surprising, given that the 2024 model already upgraded to a 50 MP wide-angle sensor, replacing the 12 MP module of previous generations.

The Z Flip 7 FE, meanwhile, features two rear lenses: a main 50 Megapixel and a 12 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle. These are sufficient for taking great vacation photos, but don’t expect performance on par with the top photography phones currently on the market.

Not launching with Android 16, but will support the update

Contrary to Samsung’s statements a few months ago, One UI 8, its software overlay based on Android 16, will not be pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Users will have to make do with One UI 7.0 for both versions. However, they will be eligible for an upgrade to One UI 8.0 as soon as it becomes available.
