Advancements in Portable Battery Technology for Smartphones
In the world of portable chargers, a particular style has become quite appealing for iPhone users, as well as for those few Android smartphones that support Qi2 – models that magnetically attach to the back of the phone. Until recently, these magnetic batteries were limited to a charging power of 15 W. However, the new Qi2.2 standard enhances this, matching the performance of the MagSafe 2 adapter released alongside the iPhone 16, with a charging power of 25 W.

Introduction of Ugreen’s New Model
The first product to embody this advancement is a model from Ugreen, set to launch in the fall of 2025. Ugreen has announced that this device will support the Qi2.2 standard with a 25 W output and a capacity of 37 Wh (10,000 mAh). The battery has already been certified and is expected to feature a small display that shows remaining capacity. Charging is to be done solely via USB-C, with an integrated cable that also doubles as a wrist strap. Notably, reverse charging, which would allow an iPhone to charge the battery itself, will not be supported; Apple has reserved this feature exclusively for its own discontinued MagSafe battery.
Belkin’s Future Plans with Qi2.2
Update on July 16: Belkin has also announced its plans to soon release products that are compatible with the Qi2.2 standard. In a press release, the Foxconn subsidiary stated it is among the first manufacturers to adopt the new standard. These products are expected to be available in the coming months.
