Following the 6 Ultra, Xiaomi’s top-tier electric scooter with 12-inch wheels, Frandroid had the opportunity to test the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Max. It ranks slightly below its predecessor, borrowing the handlebar and display from the higher model.
Unlike the Pro or Ultra versions, it is designed more for urban use with a less aggressive deck and more civilized tires. Is it the best compromise among Xiaomi’s sixth-generation models with a price tag of 649.99 euros? We rode nearly 100 km to evaluate its performance and understand its distinctions.

Classic and Sturdy Design
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Max opts for a less flashy look than the Ultra, sporting a conservative silver-gray color scheme. However, it features some black components and orange inserts (cables, shock absorbers, logo). Despite having the same wheel size (12 inches), it remains large, albeit 8 cm shorter and 5 cm less tall than the Ultra. While foldable like its siblings, it is taller when stored due to its front suspension fork, which occupies more space, measuring 70 cm in height compared to 64 cm for the Ultra.

On the downside, the ground clearance is lower, giving it a more conventional look, while the deck remains visually similar, still wide enough to comfortably place feet side by side or one in front of the other. It’s unfortunate that Xiaomi opted for a basic kickstand, with a foot too small to ensure stability everywhere.
Substantial Deck, Mediocre Lighting
The scooter weighs 29.6 kg, which is quite heavy though less so than the Ultra (33.6 kg). It’s still too cumbersome to carry over short distances, with a maximum allowable load of 130 kg (100 kg max for the rider). The Ultra also passed down its lighting system (including the front light with automatic activation, although the beam is too narrow), turn signals, the stem, and the slightly curved handlebar, which includes a bag hook (max 3 kg) and the folding mechanism.
Additionally, it features slightly longer mudguards that better protect the deck from splashes, though it still requires cleaning after riding in the rain (which is permitted by the IPX6 rating).
Impressive Display with a Standard Application
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Max inherits the stem, handlebar, and the same connectivity as its big sister, the Ultra. Without repeating everything, we refer you to the full test for more details.
It’s worth noting that the electric scooter features a high-resolution color display showcasing various driving information, a dynamic counter, and even quick settings.
The remote control on the left is easier than the old central single button, making it more convenient to change modes or activate the lights while riding (though not to navigate the menu), and even to set a locking code.
The Xiaomi Home app remains unchanged and offers the same information and settings (brakes, lighting, charge) as other devices from the brand, as well as the ability to lock the scooter briefly. Unfortunately, the Apple Find My feature, which allows for tracking the electric scooter, only works with Apple devices. This is a limitation.
A Very Reassuring Ride
With 12-inch wheels and low ground clearance, the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Max is unquestionably stable and agile. The balance is enhanced by the wide, curved handlebar, which provides a comfortable riding position, and the tires are more suited for city riding (with an expanded contact patch). The grip is excellent in corners, which slightly compromises handling on trails, though they are still navigable.
Indeed, the double suspension (small 40 mm travel fork with two rear oscillating arm shock absorbers) handles rough or off-road surfaces well. It has limitations on large obstacles and cobblestones, which send strong vibrations to the rear, a sensation also felt on the Ultra model.
However, the braking with dual mechanical disc brakes is slightly more effective, though rear skidding is still too prevalent. This is due to the more aggressive tires, with a few decimeters of braking distance gained (5 m versus 5.70 m at 25 km/h). This still falls short compared to the competition.
Highly Efficient Motor
With a nominal power of 450 W and a peak of 1100 W, the rear motor fits perfectly between those of the Ultra (500 W / 1200 W) and Pro (400 W / 1000 W). This is barely noticeable in practice, with very progressive behavior but with quick accelerations, responsive boosts, all in almost complete silence.

The Max claims a slope handling capability of 24%, which we confirmed during our test maintaining 25 km/h, against 25% for the Ultra and 22% for the Pro. We are referring to mode S here (no Boost available like the Ultra), while the more conservative mode D is limited to 15 km/h (adjustable to 25 km/h) and pedestrian mode to 6 km/h.
Real-Life Battery Life Between 30 and 35 Kilometers
Like its smaller sibling “Pro”, the Xiaomi integrates a 468 Wh battery, smaller than the Ultra’s 585 Wh. Thus, you have to settle for an official range of 70 km (at 15 km/h in eco mode) and 45 km in standard S mode at maximum speed of 25 km/h. In practice, with city driving involving numerous accelerations, some slight slopes, and varying road conditions, endurance is reduced.
At extremes, we measured 29.5 km in rain at 12°C with some off-road passages, and 35.6 km on a single trip at 17°C, with a good half at cruising speed. This is slightly worse than the Pro, which outperforms the Max by more than 6 km on average (33.2 vs 39.3 km), with a consumption of 13.2 Wh/km.
Like the Ultra, the official estimate displayed on the screen does not adapt to the driving style, thus remaining misleading for daily use. We also noted the same significant performance drop below 30%, and even more pronounced below 10% (especially uphill), while the last 5% barely allows reaching 25 km/h.
A Recharge That Requires Patience
Unsurprisingly, recharging the Xiaomi 6 Max involves the same standard 2-ampere (2A), 70-watt charger. It takes 8h45 to fully charge, while a regular 80% charge takes 6h45 and a half charge about 4 hours. On a positive note, the charger is small enough to fit in a bag, and it doesn’t heat up excessively.
In addition to monitoring the charge on the nearby app (Bluetooth connection), the display also continuously shows the charge percentage and corresponding theoretical range. Optionally, a fast charger is available for 60 euros, with a 5A intensity and 268 W power, capable of filling the battery in 2h45 according to Xiaomi.
An Interesting Price-to-Performance Ratio
Available for order along with other models since February 28, 2026, the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Max is priced at 649.99 euros in France. It can be purchased both on the official website of the Chinese brand and through partner retailers Fnac-Darty and Boulanger.
The electric scooter comes with a 2-year legal warranty on electrical components, while other components are not included. Xiaomi’s customer service can be accessed via chat on the official website or by phone, the Repair and Run network offers some physical repair shops in major cities, and spare parts are available from third-party dealers.
