Apple Unveils Latest Beta Release of Xcode 26
Last night, Apple introduced the seventh beta version of Xcode 26, incorporating two significant updates designed to enhance the use of artificial intelligence in development projects. Developers now have the default option to integrate ChatGPT’s latest GPT-5 model, although the GPT-4.1 version remains available. Additionally, for the first time, users can select Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model, which includes a new identification panel within the application settings.
Rumors Confirmed: Apple’s Partnership with Anthropic
Speculation about this development began in May when Mark Gurman reported on a potential agreement between Apple and Anthropic to bring the latter’s AI model to the Mac development environment. This move positions the Claude Sonnet 4 as a direct competitor to Swift Assist, which was introduced last year with macOS 15 Sequoia. Initially slated for a 2024 release, Swift Assist has yet to become available, and Apple has not provided further updates on its development. The final version of Xcode 26 is expected to be released in September.
