Have you ever forgotten to call someone back after missing their call? To prevent this from happening again, WhatsApp is evolving to serve as a reminder tool by introducing a new feature: missed call notification reminders.

Gone are the days of having to jot down a note in an app, on a scrap of paper, or in the back of your mind to remember to call back a contact after you’ve missed their call. WhatsApp is currently working on implementing a new feature: missed call notification reminders. This new feature is another step towards enhancing efficiency, similar to the conversation summaries generated by AI.

The rollout of this new missed call notification reminder feature was first noticed in a beta version of WhatsApp by WABetaInfo – version 2.25.22.5. It proves especially useful in scenarios where you are on the go, in a meeting, or simply unable to answer the call immediately, but you definitely want to remember to call your contact back.

WhatsApp Becomes Your Personal Assistant for Missed Call Reminders

This option supplements the fully customizable notification reminder function for messages. The goal of this new feature is the same: to enable users to effectively manage reminders for important content based on their needs by scheduling them at the most appropriate time.

To utilize this feature, two options are available: set a reminder for a missed call from the conversation where the call occurred, or create one from the Calls tab by selecting the missed call. Users can then choose from predefined time intervals: in 2 hours, 8 hours, or the next day. However, to better integrate this reminder into their schedule, they can also specify a custom date and time. WhatsApp will then display a dedicated notification for the missed call at the user-selected time. The notification includes the name of the caller, their profile picture, and a direct link to open the conversation.

While acknowledging the usefulness of the feature, our colleagues at Neowin are concerned about its potential to disrupt user productivity, by distracting them and diverting attention from their current tasks. It’s worth noting that this feature appears to be optional, but indeed, it is wise to carefully choose when to be notified. Like the notification reminders for messages, those for missed calls remain private and are processed on the phone. For now, this new feature is available only to certain beta testers, but it will be rolled out in the coming weeks to more users.
