In March of this year, the integration of the Vitale card on iPhones was expanded to all departments, but only for holders of the digital identity card registered on France Identité. For users who want to switch to a digital solution without having this new card, since April, it has been possible to request an early renewal of their identity card at no extra cost, specifically for the purpose of acquiring a digital identity. This is a step recommended by the National Health Insurance Fund: “We continuously improve this process, but for those who can, we encourage going through France Identité,” says its General Director, Thomas Fatôme.
The widespread adoption of the digital Vitale card should certainly speed up its usage. According to Le Parisien, 1.8 million people in France have already activated their digital Vitale card, with 500,000 doing so through France Identité. Among healthcare professionals, acceptance varies: “65% of pharmacists and 24% of general practitioners in France have already processed at least one bill using the digital Vitale card”, but this average conceals significant disparities between departments.
