Tim Cook Expresses Deep Concerns Over U.S. Immigration Policies

During a recent all-hands meeting with Apple employees in Cupertino, Tim Cook voiced his serious concerns about the current U.S. immigration policies, as reported by Bloomberg. He conveyed his intent to put pressure on the current administration to protect his employees’ interests.

“I have heard from some of you that you feel uncomfortable leaving your homes. No one should feel that way. Absolutely no one.” The CEO of Apple emphasized the significance of immigration to Apple’s workforce, which includes employees from across the United States on various visas. “From what I recall, we have always been a more effective, smarter, and innovative company because we have managed to attract the best talents from around the world. I will continue to push lawmakers on this issue. I promise you that.”

Public Statements Amidst Criticism

Tim Cook had previously made public statements following the events in Minneapolis last month, calling for de-escalation. The head of Apple seemed to respond to a wave of criticism about the image he was projecting for the company, especially as he attended the premiere of a documentary about Melania Trump at the White House during these events.

“Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect,” Tim Cook stated at Thursday’s meeting. “No matter where they come from.” He addressed the particular case of an employee who was worried about being deported and separated from his daughter: “If you are part of the DACA program, know that I love you” he said, referring to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that allows those who came to the U.S. as children to remain in the country with a work permit. He noted that Apple employs hundreds of DACA beneficiaries. “I will personally advocate for your cause,” he declared. “I deeply believe in this program.”
