After several delays and a long-awaited decision, the acquisition of TikTok may soon become a reality.

While a deal has been shaping up in recent days, Donald Trump has confirmed that prominent figures in American tech and media are involved in the potential TikTok agreement.

This development could reshape the governance of the social network amid ongoing negotiations between Washington and Beijing…

A Consortium with American Influence

In an interview on Fox News, the American president mentioned Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle who had previously been named as a potential buyer, Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, and Lachlan Murdoch and Rupert Murdoch as investors poised to acquire the American assets of TikTok.

The deal, still under discussion, must comply with the law passed in 2024 which requires the app to sell about 80% of its shares to American shareholders.

Donald Trump’s Political Allies Involved in TikTok’s Acquisition

The involvement of Lachlan Murdoch, CEO of Fox Corp, and his father Rupert Murdoch, who still controls a part of the family media empire, lends a political dimension to this stake.

Larry Ellison, for his part, is already a key player in the case. Oracle has been hosting TikTok’s American data since 2022. A close associate of the Republican Party and a financial supporter of Trump, he is seen as the technical and security guarantee of the project.

Michael Dell, meanwhile, is a more low-profile figure, but his involvement would bolster the economic weight of this decision.

An Economic and Strategic Issue for Donald Trump

With 170 million American users, TikTok has quickly become a major social network in the United States, as well as a platform for political expression.

For Donald Trump, who acknowledged that the app played a role in recent elections, the stakes go beyond national security. Now, it is also about controlling an influential digital space, at a time when technological rivalry between China and the United States is escalating…
