With the new iPhone 3GS and it’s upgraded 3 mega-pixel camera, not to mention the auto focus feature it’s little surprise that more and more people will be using their iPhone as their main camera and with more pictures you are going to want to do more things with them and this is where Photo Philter Phun aims to help out.
PPP (Photo Philter Phun) lets you apply 20 different filters to any photo you’ve taken on your phone or for that matter transferred to your phone from your PC, downloaded from Facebook, Twitter, Safari or any other place you can imagine, if it’s on your iPhone you can apply the filter. The fact that you can apply the filters using any picture means that PPP can also be used with the iPod touch.
Applying a filter is easy, select a picture, choose the filter and preview. Applying the filter can take anything from a second to 5 seconds and the more filters your apply the longer it will take. As easy as it is to apply the filters you can also easily undo the changes using the Revert button so playing around and testing is pretty easy. You can only apply a filter to the whole picture rather than specific areas but as simple as it is that doesn’t really matter.
Depending on the picture the filters that you apply can range from the sublime to the ridiculous and some are definitely better than others with my favorites including the Oil Painting Effect, Negative Image and Sharpen Image, the last of which doesn’t add any fancy effect but can certainly right many wrongs on photo’s that are a little too fuzzy for their own good.
Once you are happy with your creativity you have a few options of what you can do, save the updated image to your camera roll, upload to Twitter or publish to Facebook all of which can be done at the click of a button.
At 99c you can’t really go wrong with this app and while there are other apps that will allow detailed editing of your pictures this is a quick and easy way apply a range of cool effects.

“Another puzzle game” I hear you cry, “my iPhone is already full of puzzle games, why should I get another one?”, well I’ll tell you, if you have an iPhone/iPod touch full of puzzle games you must obviously like them, and secondly it’s only 2 bucks so what have you got to lose? If that hasn’t got you interested already, read on, if you are interested also read on!
The aim of Polyhedra is to fill a given percentage of the screen with geometric shapes, sounds simple enough right? Well obviously it’s not that easy. Firstly you only have a certain number of shapes to use, secondly, there are a multitude of enemies hell bent on stopping you from building your shapes. The whole game can be played with a single finger so that makes controls pretty simple. Touching the screen creates your shape and the longer you hold your finger down the larger it grows, don’t let one of the enemies that are bouncing around the screen touch the shape that you are creating though as it will kill it and reduce the number of shapes that you have at your disposal by one.
You start with circles and as you complete enough levels you get to unlock squares, pentagons, hexagons and more with your high scores all being uploaded to the Agon leaderboards which is a portal for Polyhedra and other games too. The psychedelic backgrounds create quite a colorful experience and with the simplicity of the game play the balance works well.
A ‘Toy Box’ has been added where you can play with all the geometric shapes just for fun to create you own pictures, but it doesn’t really add anything to the game and most of my time was spent playing the game rather than playing in the Toy Box.
Polyhedra is a relatively short game but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in simplicity and fun.

My initial reaction to this application was “omg someone’s tried to clone Windows Mobile home screen for iPhone” but thankfully syPhone feels a lot better to use despite crashing out a few times. At the top of the screen you have 4 tabs, Email which lets you write a quick email within the application and ToDo which is a simple to do list, both support landscape keyboard however the latter not so well with the text entry box not filling the available screen space.
The next tab is RSS which is a simple RSS reader however it only lets you read what is in the feed itself, there is no pass through to Safari for reading the whole article if the publisher only decides to put a snippet in the RSS feed. The last tab is Find which brings up a list of all the names and phone numbers in your address book and lets you filter it down by name or number by simply using the keyboard or switching to the keypad towards the bottom of the screen are a series of quick call buttons which you can assign to individual numbers from your address book, the button is then replaced by the picture in the contact page, there are 12 of these available with 4 being visible at any one time and you drag left to right to scroll through them.
Other functions include, the current date, current time (mine for some reason is stuck at midday) with location and the current weather conditions with temperature. Tapping these items brings up further functionality, so tapping the date will bring up a month to view calendar and tapping either the time or weather will bring up 4 configurable locations thankfully the background pattern and colour is customisable by turning the device into landscape mode and tapping the a colour and then the pattern of your choice out of a selection of 10 colours and 4 patterns easily matching any iPhone case you care to adorn it with however accessing this function does clash a bit after say writing emails or notes in landscape mode.
As this application launches pretty fast it could be used quite a bit despite not being able to integrate fully into the iPhone software, as you could simply sleep the device while in the app and return to it quickly when going into your phone again.
My gripes with this application is that it feels cramped, partly due to the fact that most of the interactive elements are crammed into the top half of the screen with the static bottom half rarely leaving the screen. I also find this application a good bit unstable having it crashed on me at least 3 times during testing, and for some reason the clock in the middle reports my location but time stuck at midday. Initially I was at a loss as how you remove or edit items like quick call icons, weather and world clock entries all appeared permanent with no obvious way of removing them but actually if you swipe upwards over an item it will come up with a question “are you sure you want to remove this?”

]]> https://touchreviews.net/syphone-09-windows-mobile-home-screen-iphone/feed/ 0More and more companies are sending out documents in PDF format these days and with the iPhone also being used as a professional device having a good PDF document reader for it makes complete sense.
When you initially launch PDF Expert you are presented with a User Guide for the app in PDF format, (what else!) and to get an idea of what this app will do for you not only can you read this guide but just opening it starts you off being able to use some of it’s functions.
The documents will display in both landscape and portrait mode. Landscape will allow you to read the document easier while in portrait mode you can view full pages, in full color, and access the menu items. And it’s these menu’s options that really bring this app to life.
First up is the search option which works excellently, simply enter the word you wish to find in the search box at the top of the page and after it has finished searching, which took only a matter of seconds for a 100 page document, you can the move though each of the found words using the arrow keys.
Copying the text of any document is easy too. After selecting the copy option a block is highlighted on the page which you can resize and move by simply touching the screen. Once you’ve highlighted the text you want you simply tap the Copy button and that text will be available for you to copy into any other application. Other options include Bookmarking, very important especially while ready large documents, Go to page which does just what it say’s and an email option that allows you to forward your PDF doc to someone via email.
The display of the documents is clear and easy to read and zooming utilizes the standard touch screen controls making it very intuitive to navigate around. If you receive password protected documents then PDF Expert can handle those too. It’s not limited to PDF documents either as it can also view MS Offics, HTML and txt files too.
The best feature of this PDF application for me though was the ability to drag and drop files to my iPhone and have them directly appear within the PDF Expert document. This means all the files I download to my PC can easily be transfered to my iPhone quickly and easily over the wifi network by simply entering setting up the iPhone in your Network Places. And don’t worry if you’ve not done that before because the applications steps you though it and you will be up and away within a matter of seconds.
PDF Expert is a one stop shop for all your PDF needs so if you use your iPhone/iPod Touch for work and/or handle a lot of PDF documents this app is a must for you. If you’re quick you can get hold of it for just $3.99.

Puzzlegeddon [rating: 4/5]
Promo Code Winners: Rubens, Ramesh King, faresf [Please contact us via Twitter to receive your promo code]
Fasten your seat belt. Leading German mobile games publisher HandyGames (developer of top hit BeerShooter and Tattoo Mania) and Swedish game developer Pieces Interactive present the much anticipated iPhone version of the puzzle action hit Puzzlegeddon. Having sharpened their take on the game with PC and mobile versions, they have now unleashed this challenging mix of puzzle, action and strategy to the iTunes Store.
Imagine using the character of your choice along with your strategic puzzle skills to conquer planets. Defend and defeat through the manifold galaxies, game modes and challenges. Presented with a square puzzle board made up of blocks in four colors, the player shuffles blocks around by moving rows and columns. As a block is moved out of one edge it wraps around the board and appears on the other side, similar to a “flattened version of a Rubik’s Cube”. The objective, similar to other match 4 games, is to match blocks of similar color ultimately defeating countless obstacles that patiently await your arrival.
Featuring 12 attacks and power ups, eight different characters with their own special skills, you must make your way through themed planets by sliding rows and columns of similar color. Make sure to make large combos which will reward you access to the various power-ups necessary to boost your score.
Due to the massive amount of puzzle games available at the App Store, these developers have worked hard to stand out from the competition. Some of the exceptional features include:
I have only a few gripes about this application. The background music is irritating and repetitive. Turning off the volume fixes this problem however it would be nice if it supported iPod music. As for the graphics, they are “good”. The animations are simple but smooth. In order for this game to make it to the top of their competition, multifaceted and complex animations must be added to enhance the overall look.
“PUZZLEGEDDON is a game for every taste and play style – it makes you think hard, play smart and act fast!” Use your skills wisely and your strategies wiser. Try the free version to see if you are up for the challenge. You can’t go wrong with “Geddon” this game!

T-Kara [rating: 3.5/5]
As more and more puzzle games flood into the App Store a game needs to have something different if it’s going to stand out and that is what T-Kara developed by Mexond is offering, and not only that it’s offering two for the price of one.
The game is played on a 8 x 9 grid and in both modes the movement of the pieces is done by sliding entire rows or columns back and fourth either vertically or horizontally and while this premise is easy the puzzles are not.
The first mode is Time Attack, a Bejeweled style game where aligning four or more matching shapes will make them disappear. You’re up against the clock though and you need to reach a certain score to open up the next level and new pieces. Each level also brings new challenges where certain new pieces can only be cleared in certain ways. These lock patterns certainly raise the difficulty level but certainly make it more of an enjoyable challenge too.
Puzzle mode takes away the timer and makes for a more relaxing game. While the controls and movement of the pieces remain the same the task now is to move the pieces so that they match a predefined pattern. The difficulty level racks up pretty quickly here but thanks to the the lack of a timer your able to take your time to complete the 12 puzzles.
The game graphics and menus look sleek and navigation is via unique system of side panels around the edges of the screen, this can be a little confusing to begin with but after a few minutes you’ll be navigating around the app with no troubles at all. While the music is your standard puzzle style background music it certainly doesn’t irritate and the sound effects fit in well.
If you are quick you can pick up this new style puzzler for a bargain 99 cents and while this puzzler could be completed quickly by puzzle addicts this should provide enough of a challenge for most puzzle fans. Hopefully future updates will include more pictures for the puzzle mode too.

Run! for iPhone: Gameplay
]]> https://touchreviews.net/run-iphone-game-review/feed/ 5
In a market overloaded with imitators and flavors of the day, original games are always welcome. Even though there are only so many ways to interface with a game, the concept of the game needs to be original and fresh. Shine from Blueshift Software is a sidescrolling game with an original concept. It blends a proven genre in the sidescroller with addictive gameplay.
In Shine you must guide your light through an everchanging cavern. Impeding your progress are crystals scattered at random durations and heights. Run into the crystals and it’s game over. Run into the top or bottom of the cavern and it’s game over. Inside of those confines you must navigate the cavern and light crystals.
Shine provides an easily navigated interface. I easily played the game with one hand on numerous occasions. Since this is a sidescrolling game, the only motion input required is to move your light up and down. That’s covered by touching the indicated area on the bottom of the screen. I know that doesn’t sound very compelling or difficult but believe me it is. I spent hours coming back to this game again and again trying to get further and further down the cavern. The beautiful background art and variety and randomness of the hurdles and changes in the environment add to the replay potential of the game greatly. A top five local high score list will remind you how far you got and challenge you to do better.
One of the really innovative things I liked about this game was the accomplishment system. There are five accomplishments to unlock during the course of the game. These accomplishments are based on interactions you have with the game. I don’t want to spoil any of the fun of discovery for the game. Suffice it to say the five types are Thread the Needle, Glowing the Distance, Perfect Disaster, The Old Over / Under, and Steady Spelunker. While long term success in any sidescroller can be accomplished by just keeping an even keel and avoiding the obstacles in your way, these accomplishments challenge you to do a little bit more than just fly in a straight line.
Shine also fulfills one of my key requirements; broad appeal. This game is fun and playable for all ages. I would have no hesitation playing this game for hours and then passing it to a child to keep them busy as well. A game with such a cross-generational appeal is great for a family sharing an iPhone or iPod Touch for entertainment.
Overall, I found Shine to be an enjoyable and challenging game. The only improvement I could see would be the implementation of some type of leveling system. Perhaps a way to increase the scrolling speed or frequency of obstacles at the beginning of the game. Implementing set difficulty levels or spinners to customize settings would only enhance an already replayable game.
This game is a great value for the whole family. Let Shine brighten your iPhone gaming experience.

SET, this is the official version, approved by SET Enterprises and licensed by Mustang Mobile.
SET, the classic card game of visual perception, is now on iPhone. Exercise your brain by finding sequences of corresponding symbols, based on their count, color and shading. Have fun in this quick-to-learn and highly addictive game!
SET is a highly addictive family card game which is now available on your iPhone and iPod Touch. The objective of the game is to match 3 cards to make a SET (Simple right? NO!), the SETs have to look all the same or all different, and that isn’t easy when you are working with shapes, colors, shading, and numbers all at the same time; Basically all 3 cards need to follow all of these conditions:
This game offers many different modes and two skill levels to play.
Each of these modes has a Basic skill level (9 cards featuring color, symbol, and numbers) or an Advanced skill level (12 cards featuring color, symbol, shading, and numbers).
If you are having a mental breakdown trying to understand the game, then there is a great tutorial to help you get a grasp on how to play the game. They also included a in-game score board to keep track of your time.
The user interface is very simple, after starting up a game all you have to do to select a card is tap once on the card you want to include in a SET, and if you want to un-select that card just simply tap on it a second time. Just be sure that you make the right decision so that you are not wasting time, because in this game time is your enemy.

- Skatepark Finder. Over 2,400 U.S. Skateparks.

- Stay connected with your favorite pro skateboard teams and your local skate crew by joining groups. Within groups you can watch & post photos, videos and comments to the wall.

- Get your avatar and name splashed on your favorite skatepark page as “top contributor” by posting the most photos and videos to that park.
Sketeropolis is said to bring social networking to the skateboarding scene and it’s off to a great start with good content, simple navigation and integrated website. Having said all that Skateropolis is geared more towards actual boarders rather than those that like to play it on a gaming console.
One of the first things you’ll want to do when launching the app is to create a profile so that you can follow friends, Twitter style, join groups, Facebook style, and synchronize all of it with the website at www.skateropolis.com. This is simple to do with only a username, password and email address initially required to get you started.
Once that’s been done you can start viewing some of the great content. Video’s and pictures are the bread and butter of any social networking content and this is provided in both quantity and quality in Skateropolis. Pictures can be viewed and uploaded easily but it’s the videos which play quickly and in high quality over Wi-Fi that really bring the app to life. Not only can you watch skater videos but also upload them directly from the iPhone too which is a great feature for catching all the action from the local skate park.
And if you don’t know where your local skate park is then this app is also for you as the ‘Near Me’ feature will allow you to utilize the iPhone’s GPS functionality to find your nearest half-pipe, bowl or snakeflow park. In addition to using your GPS to locate parks you can also use the Search facility to search by city, state or zip which will be great if you’re planning a trip or vacation out of town.
Once you’ve found a park you can use the open its location via the inbuilt Google Maps, view detailed info about the park facilities, user videos, pictures and comments as well as an overall rating. You can also add your favorite parks to your profile for easy access.
The part of Skateropolis that will make or break the app though is its ability to keep boarders connected and in touch which is done via the Connect tab. Here you can join groups of fellow skaters and follow other boarders Twitter style by ‘Skitching’ you latest updates.
And this is where the app has its work cut out. Skaterpolosis is only a matter of days old and so the number of groups and users is very limited. Without like minded people to share your content with the urge to participate is going to be limited. That being said it’s early days and with Twitter integration due to be included in a future update Skateropolis has the potential of being the only place to be to share your online boarding life.

Even before reviewing this game I’ve always been a fan of the throw large weights at a target type game, whether that be the indoor variety like Shuffle Board, the ice variety like Curling or the grass variety of Boule, so to get an iPhone app in the same vein was very exciting.
For those of you who don’t know the game of Horseshoes it is best played outside in the warm sunshine with a horseshoe in one hand and an ice cold drink in the other. The aim is to launch the aforementioned horseshoe through the air to a pole sticking out of the ground in the attempt to get as close as you can or even better, hook the horseshoe around the pole itself.
So with all that said how does the iPhone version match up to the real thing? With a cold drink on hand and sunshine streaming through my window I fired up the app and set about my review.
HorseShoes Pro comes with four styles of play, Ringers, Arcade Toss and Tournament and Play-n-Pass which allows you to challenge someone head-to-head on a single iPhone/iPod Touch.
The game offers the usual polish of other Skyworks games with effective graphics and sound rather than groundbreaking, but as with many games it’s all about the gameplay rather than how pretty it looks.
For those wanting an authentic game of Horseshoes then Ringers or Tournament Mode are the choice for you and the game plays very well. Throwing of the horseshoe is via the tried and tested method of sliding your finger up the screen and this works very effectively, in addition the accelerometer is used to affect the flight of the horseshoe and wrap it round the pole.
After a few games of horseshoe you’ll begin to see that using the accelerometer is required esp. if you are playing in tournament mode where each opponent will get progressively more and more accurate with their shots.
Each round can take a significant amount of time to play as you race your opponent to 40 points but if you enjoy the challenge and the subtleties of the game that won’t worry you. Being able to win the tournament on my first attempt though suggests that the difficulty level may be set a little low for some.
The final version of Horseshoe Pro is Arcade Toss which brings the games indoors and adds a bit of glamor to the game with the addition of bright lights, lazers and bonus points. Ultimately the game is still the same old throwing a bent lump of iron around a stick but the change is nice and the addition of two further targets mixes things up and will challenge you finger flicking skills.
At the end of every game you’ll get the opportunity to upload your score to the online servers to see how you compare globally but with the only a local multiplayer option Skyworks missed an opportunity here to make a good game a great game.
That being said I’m still coming back to the game for a quick go and that has to be a sign that they’ve got something right.
