iPhone, iPad Games, Apps, Reviews, News Thu, 16 Jul 2015 12:57:54 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Apple updates iPhone 6 World Gallery films with new videos Fri, 26 Jun 2015 08:41:53 +0000 Read More]]> Apple launched its “shot on iPhone 6″ campaign in March this year which features photos taken by users. The campaign was recently expanded to include videos and now the company has featured select 15 seconds video clips and posted them on its website.

Apple updated its video collection on Thursday by adding two new videos titled “Shot on iPhone 6 by Jirasak P.” and “Shot on iPhone 6 by Willian P.” The new clips added to the “World Gallery films” showcase slow motion capabilities of the iPhone 6.

“Shot on iPhone” ad campaign turned out to be a huge success for Apple and the company received the top Outdoor Lions prize at the Cannes Festival for its campaign.

This isn’t the first time that Apple has used user-generated content to market features of its flagship devices. Even during keynote presentations the company has often featured photos and videos taken by its staff.

Apple’s marketing and advertising efforts have always focused on experience with the device rather than its technical feature set. This strategy has worked out well for the company as its campaigns have almost always struck the right chord.

iPhone’s camera is by far the most popular camera in the world according to Flickr users. In the top 5 list Flickr lists top three devices as iPhone 6, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 respectively.

Apple has remained committed to make the camera on iPhone better with each new model as it develops it’s own software and even sensors to make sure that the resulting photos are nothing short of extraordinary.

]]> 0 Apple springs to number one smartphone manufacturer Wed, 04 Mar 2015 09:13:39 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s iPhone sales set new records each year and 2014 proved to be the biggest year for the company. According to Gartner Apple Inc. became the number one smartphone manufacturer in Q4 2014 with worldwide sales of 74,832 units.

Apple took the lead from Samsung that sold 73,032 units during the same time period. For comparison in the year ago quarter Apple sold 50,224 units while Samsung sold 83,317 units. With iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus Apple captured the pent up demand for iPhone with a large screen.

Samsung continued to be the top smartphone vendor in the entire year selling 307,597 units while Apple sold 191,426 units. Samsung sells smartphones in almost all price categories from low-end to high-end and offers different options from budget phones to flagship phones.

Apple has continued to sell only one flagship phone each year until it introduced the iPhone 6 in two variations. iPhone 6 Plus has proved to be a major hit in the Asian markets where Samsung’s large Android phones were the bestsellers.

Samsung recently announced its two new flagship phones called Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the design is strikingly different from anything that the company has offered before. With aluminium enclosure, glass back, no external SD card slot and non-removable battery it could be closest thing to owning an iPhone running Android.

It will be interesting to see what will be the impact on market share in Q2. Do you think Samsung will take back the lead from Apple? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 6s to feature Apple Watch like “force touch” technology? Wed, 04 Mar 2015 08:23:37 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s next-gen ‘iPhone 6s’ may feature Apple Watch like ‘force touch’ technology according to a new report. Apple Watch can differentiate between a gentle tap on the screen and applying force. This has been made possible by using tiny electrodes around the flexible Retina display on the watch.

Using force touch Apple Watch can provide the user with new user interactions and offers an unobtrusive way to access menu within an app or even change watch faces. According to AppleInsider’s report which cites people familiar with the matter, Apple could be looking at including the same ‘force touch’ technology in the upcoming ‘iPhone 6s’.

While describing the technology Apple refers to force touch as the “most significant new sensing capability since Multi‑Touch”. Apple introduced multi-touch technology first on the iPhone, then on the iPad and it was also extended to its trackpad. The company is known to offer unified user interface across all its devices so it is possible that after Apple Watch iPhone 6s could be the next device featuring the new technology.

It is interesting to note that the report mentions that Apple was working on including the technology even on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus however, due to technical reasons it was scheduled for inclusion in the next iPhone. It is possible that with phone screens getting bigger, sensing force could be a great way to add contextual menu’s in the middle of the screen to avoid stretching your thumb all the way to the top.

Apple is holding ‘spring forward’ special media event on March 9 where the company is widely expected to announce Apple Watch apps, availability and pricing. As the watch becomes available sometime in April we will have to wait and see how ‘force touch’ can change the way we interact with touch based interfaces.

]]> 0 First details about iPhone 6s camera module emerge Mon, 09 Feb 2015 14:43:10 +0000 Read More]]> Apple is expected to announce “iPhone 6s” and “iPhone 6s plus” later this year as the company follows its annual iOS device upgrade cycle. According to a new report published by Taipei Times, Apple will retain the 8-megapixel rear camera sensor in the next iPhone.

The publication quotes Taipei-based analyst Jeff Pu who suggests that Largan Precision Co, a major smartphone camera lens supplier to Apple Inc. will “face limited earnings” due to slow transition to higher-resolution lenses.

Pu said that the camera specifications of the next-generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 6S, will stay the same as the current iPhone 6 at 8-megapixels, limiting potential catalysts to push Largan’s stock price higher in the second half of the year.

The report published by Taipei Times contradicts Daring Fireball’s John Gruber belief that Apple may be working on major camera improvements for the next iPhone.

Apple has been following a pattern when it comes to launching new iPhone each year. The company introduces an all-new design one year and then follows up with the same design but with new processor and camera enhancements.

Most companies have launched new phones with more megapixels each year whereas Apple has retained the 8 megapixel camera since the iPhone 4s but, improved the sensor and added new technologies to allow users to take better photos.

Apple leads the list of most popular cameras on Flickr and to retain that spot the company would need to continue making the iPhone camera better each year. It will be interesting to see if Apple features a higher megapixel camera in the new iPhone. The new iPhones are likely to be unveiled sometime near September this year.

]]> 0 Corning’s ‘Project Phire’ to offer sapphire like scratch-resistance Mon, 09 Feb 2015 13:30:50 +0000 Read More]]> On Friday, Corning announced that the company is working on ‘Project Phire’ as it prepares to ship a new glass composition which will be just as scratch resistant as sapphire while offering increased drop-protection.

Apple’s plan to replace Gorilla Glass with sapphire glass in iPhone 6 didn’t go so well as their partnership with GT Advanced resulted in dissolution due to production issues.

Apple and Corning’s Gorilla Glass share a long history. When Steve Jobs was working on the original iPhone he didn’t want to use a plastic screen, instead wanted it to be made of glass. Since glass screen would have been too easy to break someone recommended that Jobs should see what Corning was doing. At that time Corning was developing the Gorilla Glass technology however, it wasn’t ready for mass production. Jobs ordered a ton of Gorilla Glass and kept telling Corning CEO Wendell Weeks, “Don’t be afraid. You can do this.” In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone with Gorilla Glass.

Corning’s Gorilla Glass has seen tremendous improvements since it began its first mass production in 2006. Gorilla Glass 2 was 30% thinner than the former, Gorilla Glass 3 used an entirely new composition. Gorilla Glass 4 which is expected to be featured on smartphones, tablets and other devices this year is twice as shatter-resistant in drop tests when compared to previous version.

It’s obvious that Apple makes for a large part of Corning’s revenue and they would’ve seen Apple’s move to consider sapphire for iPhone 6 as a possible threat. The company seems to have taken that as a challenge and started work on offering the same scratch-resistance as sapphire with ‘Project Phire’.

Competition in most cases can lead to innovation and if ‘Project Phire’ turns out to offer what Corning is promising then it is possible that Apple will continue to use Corning’s technology in upcoming iOS devices. Coring didn’t immediately provide any demo video or live demonstration of its new technology however, we can expect the company to share an update soon.

Glass used on smartphones and tablets is increasingly becoming another core technology. Apple has consistently shown interest in owning core technologies as it did try to “own” glass technology by partnering with GT Advanced for sapphire production.

It will be interesting to see if Apple continues to rely on Corning for its screen technology or develop something new.

]]> 0 5 Interesting facts you need to know from Apple’s Q1 2015 earnings report Mon, 02 Feb 2015 11:35:58 +0000 Read More]]> Last week Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) reported the highest quarterly results in its entire history. AAPL posted record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion and record quarterly net profit of $18 billion. These figures are certainly very impressive given the fact that every year analysts predict Apple’s doom.

Here are 5 interesting facts to note from Apple’s earnings call.

1. Apple beat every company in the world with the highest quarterly net profit.

Apple’s Q1 2015 net profit was more than any other company in the world. In the top 20 list of highest quarterly net profit Apple is the only consumer electronics company to be featured on the list, others are Oil & Gas companies. Apple is featured 5 times on the same list.

2. Apple made a net profit of $8.3 million every hour this quarter.

When you were happy that you got a good 7 hour sleep on a certain day, Apple earned about $58.1 million in the same amount of time. That’s not bad for a company whose entire product lineup could fit on top of your dinning table.

3. The billionth iOS device Apple sold was a Space Gray 64GB iPhone 6 Plus.

During its earnings call Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced that on November 22nd the company shipped their 1 billionth iOS device. Apple has saved the billionth iOS device at the Apple HQ in Cupertino.

4. Apple Pay makes up more than $2 out of $3 spent on purchase using contactless payment in the U.S.

Within three months after launch of Apple Pay, the service now supports about 750 banks and credit unions. According to Apple WholeFoods saw a 400% increase in mobile payment since the introduction of Apple Pay.

5. iPad sales slumped this quarter.

While all major product categories grew in revenue and units sold, Apple’s iPad sales figures were lower than expected. In Q1 2015 Apple sold 21.4 million devices compared to 26 in the year ago quarter. Apple introduced the all-new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini however, this did not help Apple is posting record sales for the tablet.

]]> 0 This man strapped 94 iPhones to his body, but did it bend? Wed, 14 Jan 2015 19:06:44 +0000 Read More]]> Every year Apple sets new sales records for iPhones. The launch of new phone is rolled out in phases making the latest device from Apple available in important markets first and then adding more countries.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus launch was no different, it set all time high record for the company and until recently the company had been struggling to catch up with the demand. Due to differences in pricing, currency and contract terms iPhones are sometimes cheaper in certain countries when compared with others.

The black market is known to import phones from countries where it is available earlier or cheaper and make profit by selling at higher price. One Chinese man thought about doing the same, however the import technique he used was rather unique.

According to the report published by Huffington Post, the man strapped 94 iPhones to his body as he was allegedly smuggling the phones from HongKong to mainland China. The report mentions that the custom officials noticed his “weird walking posture, joint stiffness, muscle tension” and pulled him aside for questioning.

When I first saw the photo of the man with all those phones strapped to his body I was reminded about the iPhone 6 bendgate. I wonder if any of those 94 iPhone were bent during the course of his journey. While we may never find out if those iPhones did bend or not but, considering the fact that those were meant to be sold it seems that the man was fairly confident about his technique.

Apple is committed to increase the number of Apple Stores in China from 15 to 40 within two years. Making the devices available easily and on the same launch date as the U.S. may help discourage such activities in future.

]]> 0 iPhone continues to be the most popular “camera” owned by Flickr users Mon, 12 Jan 2015 10:25:30 +0000 Read More]]> Apple may never introduce a dedicated camera device however, it sure is not losing out on any limelight in the camera industry. According to Flickr’s 2014 most popular camera list Apple features in the top 3 positions in the 2014 top individual cameras owned, the fourth position is taken by Canon EOS 7D and Nikon D7000 is at fifth position.

If you consider only mobile cameras then Apple sweeps the top 5 category with top four ranks featuring iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 5c. In 2013 the original iPhone was at the fifth position but this year Samsung Galaxy S3 replaced the fifth spot.

The most interesting rank in the stats shared by Flickr is that Apple is now the second most popular “camera brand”. Last year the company featured at third position.

When the original iPhone was launched in 2007 it featured a modest 2 MP camera with no flash and not many editing or sharing features. It was the iPhone 4 that received a major camera upgrade. It’s been eight years since the launch of the first gen iPhone and the improvements the company has been making to it’s camera is clearly winning the hearts of its users.

Sunset from moving car - on explore november 30th -2014

Apple introduced the all-new iPhone 6 in September 2014 and within 3 months it already featured at number 7 claiming 1% share of top mobile cameras according to Flickr. With new features like Focus Pixel, improved face detection, image stabilisation, burst mode and exposure control Apple is making sure that it retains the top spot in 2015 as well.

It is important to consider that it is not just the camera hardware but, also the software that made iPhone reach this far by enabling easy edit and share options. The Photos app in iOS 8 received a major upgrade adding photo filters, advanced exposure, light and color controls.

Unlike its competitors Apple hasn’t focused on “megapixels” what it has done is focus on making it easier for users to take great photos.

We’ll have to wait until the end of 2015 to find out if Apple can retain its existing position or it may just topple Canon for the number one camera brand.

]]> 0 Apple airs two new iPhone 6 and 6 plus TV Ads Wed, 26 Nov 2014 18:07:14 +0000 Read More]]> Apple aired two new iPhone ads this week titled “Gamers” and “Reservations”. Both ads are similar to the ones Apple aired when introducing the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. The ads have been voiced over by Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.

The new TV ads highlight iOS 8 continuity feature and Apple’s A8 chip that enhances gaming on the new phones. In “Reservations” the ad shows how users can use any iOS 8 device to make a call. iPad and Macs connect to the iPhone over bluetooth and function as a speakerphone for the iPhone giving users the freedom to accept and reject calls from any Apple device that offers the continuity feature.

The ad titled “Gamers” shows off the graphics capabilities of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. The ad feature the game Vainglory by Super Evil Megacorp that takes advantage of the high performance the new chip and Metal API offers.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus have proved to be the biggest launch success for Apple and the company is still catching up with the demand worldwide. The bugger screen phone has been more successful in the Asian market when compared to the US and the UK.

While Apple continues to advertise the features of its new phones its competitors Samsung and Microsoft are focusing on comparing their offering with Apple’s latest devices.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus India release date confirmed and pricing revealed Tue, 07 Oct 2014 18:02:48 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s latest smartphones, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, will be available in the Indian market on October 17. Both phones launched in the US and 9 more countries on September 19; the first weekend sales were reported to be more than 10 million devices.

The company is rolling out the new phones aggressively in all the markets it sells the phone as it aims to make it available in 115 countries by the end of the year. After some regulatory delays the phones will also go on sale in China on the same day as the Indian launch.

Both phones will be available in silver, grey and gold and in three storage capacities. iPhone 6 16GB is priced at Rs 53,500, 64GB is priced at Rs 62,500 and the 128GB version will sell for Rs 71,500. iPhone 6 features 4.7 inch screen with a resolution of 1334×750 pixels.

iPhone 6 plus is the biggest phone Apple has ever introduced and features 5.5 inch screen with full 1080p resolution. iPhone 6 plus 16 GB will sell for Rs 62,500, 64 GB version is priced at Rs 71,500 and 128 GB will sell for Rs 80,500.

Online retailers like Flipkart and local authorised re-sellers have already begun taking pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus in India.

The phones are expected to be available in limited quantity and there’s high possibility of these devices selling out on launch day. Apple is facing unprecedented demand and their supply chain is trying its best to cope up with the demand. iPhone 6 plus demand is more than what the company had expected and it is in the process of ramping up its production.

The bigger iPhone is expected to be more popular in the Indian market as Samsung has dominated this segment with its phablet devices.

Are you excited about the launch? Which iPhone will you be buying? Let us know in the comments below.

]]> 0 An open letter to tech journalists covering iPhone 6 Plus bending issue Tue, 30 Sep 2014 18:23:32 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s entry into the big screen smartphone market has been largely successful considering the record 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus units sold in the opening weekend, however there has been one particular “issue” that seems to suggest otherwise.

After a few images of a bent iPhone 6 plus surfaced online the media took immediate notice and widely reported the “bendgate”. A video posted by Unbox Therapy demonstrated how putting a lot of pressure can bend the iPhone 6 plus went viral. As the mainstream media and even television shows took notice, it became obvious that Apple would soon have to issue a public response to iPhone 6 plus bending when someone tried to, you guessed it, bend the phone.

We reported on Apple’s response and the company even invited the press to iPhone testing facility to show how the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus go through a series of test to simulate real world usage.

Smartphone insurance company Square Trade’s verdict was simply that the latest phones from Apple are “more durable than any before them.”

Most publications which reviewed the device after testing it wrote highly about the new phones and praised Apple for creating the best iPhone yet.

If this wasn’t enough, Consumer Reports unhappy with the “unscientific” nature of the viral video went ahead and performed their own scientific tests to examine how much force does it take to break the new phones. The tests revealed that it takes 70 pounds to bend the iPhone 6 and 90 pounds to bend the iPhone 6 plus. The publication concluded “any of these phones should stand up to typical use.”

After reading multiple stories and watching many videos, here are my views and also an open letter to tech journalists.

Dear Journalists,

One thing is clear: Things break! That’s it. Things break!

If one puts enough pressure or handles things in a way it is not meant to then it would most certainly break.

I sincerely appreciate all the drop tests and bend tests that are published online. These videos show us the extent of damage that can be caused to our devices in case it suffers an extreme situation. While the iPhone 6 plus did survive the drop test here and here, it seems that it doesn’t pass the bend test.

I’ve wondered why this happens. Each iPhone bending video I watch shows the person trying very hard, gasping, pursing their lips, fingers shivering and skin blanching to the extreme while performing the bendgate. They are giving it whatever they have to prove that iPhone 6 plus bends when you put extreme pressure on it.

If the same people who performed this test actually took time and came back to report that the iPhone 6 plus bends under normal use over a period of maybe 15 or 30 days it would have proved to be a more believable story.

Only 9 out of the 10 million reported any bending issue, according to Apple. So, people who actually use their phone like a phone most certainly are not complaining about this issue.

One argument that has become common is that Samsung phones are large too, but it does not bend as much as iPhone. I agree. But, does Apple have to opt for plastic body so that we can be happy that it does not bend much when we intentionally want to bend it? I think Apple is probably not catering to such audience.

I actually wonder why Apple was never struck with “entanglegate” since the headphones entangle when you put it in your pockets. Shocking! Right?

iPhone 6 has an aluminium body and a glass front, the company does not claim either of the materials to be non-destructible. So, stop trying to prove the obvious by intentionally bending the phone. Instead try using the phone in real life and then come back and report if it didn’t meet your expectations. Apple is not responsible for people intentionally trying to deform the device, however if the bending occurs as a result of normal use then the device should be covered under Apple warranty and that story is worth highlighting.

]]> 0 Should you worry about your iPhone 6 plus bending? Apple Responds Fri, 26 Sep 2014 14:38:50 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s latest and greatest products are subject to both, a lot of media attention and scrutiny. Every year the company outperforms its previous iPhone sales records and this year was no exception. Apple sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus in the opening weekend.

10 million is a huge number of early adopters who probably just saw Apple’s executive team announce the new iPhone 6 and 6 plus and instantly decided to buy it. Customers have time and again shown their trust in the Apple brand and the company has managed to retain their trust.

This year after a few reports and photos of bent iPhone 6 plus appeared online, YouTuber Lewis of Unbox Therapy went ahead and posted a video of him bending an iPhone 6 plus and it did noticeably bend under a lot of pressure. It didn’t take long for the video to go viral and the entire blogosphere and the media started discussing the issue.

Apple has mastered the aluminium unibody design introduced first in MacBook Pro’s and then the iPhone 5. Samsung continues to manufacture its flagship devices made of plastic, however Apple remains committed to aluminium unibody. Most reviews are quick to point out that plastic feels cheap whereas metal body gives devices a high-end premium look and feel.

Many would expect Apple to be aware of any bending issue if it exists since their product engineering teams have been working with metals since a long time. Could Apple have made a huge mistake and put its multi-billion dollar business in jeopardy with its decision to stick with aluminium body for iPhone 6? Didn’t Apple test the device enough before bringing it to the market?

These are some of the most obvious questions that would come to anyone’s mind. So, what really went wrong?

After a brief period of silence Apple released an official statement and even invited the press to the iPhone testing facility in Cupertino. It turns out that according to Apple only 9 out of the ten million users who bought the new phones have reported any bending issue. Dan Ricco, Apple’s SVP Hardware Engineering said, “The bottom line is that if you use enough force to bend an iPhone, or any phone, it’s going to deform,”.

Put pressure on iPhone 6

The most secretive company in the world opened its gate for the press to see how the devices are tested. iPhone 6 and 6 plus could be seen going through a number of testing scenarios where the device was put under weight, being bent and even being pushed against a curved piece of cloth to simulate pressure in ones pocket.

Simulating iPhone 6 in pocket

According to Apple, iPhones go through more than 15,000 different types of tests and iPhone 6 was the first device to go through the most number of tests ever done.

Apple has been in a similar situation before, when the iPhone 4 was introduced the “Antennagate” issue was reported. If you held the iPhone 4 in a closed grip covering both sides the signal would drop. The company held a special press conference where Steve himself faced the media and saying that every phone when held in a particular position results in loss of signal bars. The company said it would fix its algorithms to show the correct number of signal bars and even gave free bumper case to its customers.

This time the issue seems to be rare and could occur only under uncommon circumstances. The truth is your iPhone will bend if you intentionally or unintentionally put more than “normal” pressure on it and this is true for most devices.

It is noteworthy to mention that smartphone insurance company SqaureTrade tested both new phones and found them to be the toughest iPhone yet.

]]> 2 Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Pre-Order figures hit 4 million Mon, 15 Sep 2014 15:20:04 +0000 Read More]]> Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) on Monday announced that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus pre-order figures crossed 4 million devices in the first 24 hours. This is a brand new record for Apple Inc. (AAPL). The company in an official statement said that the initial demand has far exceeded the supply available and many customers who ordered their phone will receive it in the first week of October.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus according to Apple is the biggest update to the iPhone since the original. Both phones feature larger display with Retina HD technology, new processors, NFC chip, better camera sensors and barometer.

The new phones will go on sale for walk-in customers on September 19 and will be available at Apple retail stores, network partners and authorised resellers.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said, “iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do.” He further added, “Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday.”

In addition to the United States, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus will also be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK this Friday.

To put the pre-order figures of iPhone 6 in perspective, iPhone 5 pre-orders topped two million in first 24 hours in 2012 and the first weekend sales crossed five million devices. Apple did not release pre-order figures for iPhone 5S, however it did reveal that the first weekend sales figures topped 9 million devices and included China too.

This year iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus just like iPhone 5 will arrive a bit late in China due to delayed regulatory approvals. So, iPhone 6 pre-orders at 4 million in just 24 hours is certainly a very impressive record for Apple.

With its bigger screen phones, Apple Pay and the upcoming Apple Watch, the company is all set to break previous records and gain a lot of lost ground from Samsung. On September 26 the new phones from Apple will go on sale in 20 additional countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.

What are your predictions about the first weekend sales for the new iPhones? Will Apple cross the 10 million mark this year? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 Plus shipping date slips to 3-4 weeks iPhone 6 still in stock Fri, 12 Sep 2014 12:21:02 +0000 Read More]]> Apple started accepting pre-orders for iPhone 6 plus and iPhone 6 earlier today and the shipping date has already slipped to 3-4 weeks for certain models. A quick look at Apple’s online store reveals that iPhone 6 Plus in 128GB and 64GB variations has been extremely popular as the availability has pushed to more than 3 weeks, the 16GB variation shows availability as 7-10 days. While iPhone 6 is still in stock as all variations show delivery date as September 19.

It’s clear that there was pent-up demand for a large screen iPhone. With iPhone 6 plus launch Apple is all set to take the market by storm. iPhone 6 plus features 5.5inch Retina HD display , second generation 64-bit chip, improved camera sensor, NFC chip and more. iPhone 6 features nearly the same features as iPhone 6 plus except the display size which is 4.7 inch and doesn’t feature optical image stabilisation.

The new iPhones will be available in retail stores on September 19. Eager customers began queuing outside the stores much before the phone was announced. Apple may face shortage of stock to meet the release day demand. This has become a trend of sorts with all major product launches from Apple in the recent past.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, didn’t hesitate to comment that iPhone 6 will be mother of all upgrades. Publications that have published early impressions seem to be highly positive about the new phones.

With both new phones featuring larger displays there is something new to experience for everyone. Apple Pay could also play a major factor in bringing in new customers as Apple plans to revolutionise mobile payments. Apple claims that Apple Pay will be easy, fast and secure. The service demo shown during the event involved bringing the phone near the NFC device and simply touching the Touch ID to authenticate payment. The company claims that it will not store any data on its server and will use token system to completely randomise every transaction without storing any sensitive information.

Bigger display, NFC, better camera, faster processor and thinner design that’s exactly what people wanted and Apple has delivered.

Did you manage to pre-order your new iPhone? Which one did you order, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus? Let us know in the comments below.

]]> 2 iPhone 6 launch date for India October 17 Tue, 09 Sep 2014 21:30:21 +0000 Read More]]> Update: The article has been edited with correct information from Apple’s website. The website earlier showed availability as September 26 but now has been updated to show the correct release date for customers in India.

Just a few hours ago Apple wrapped up its special media event. As expected the company announced two new iPhones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. The new phones will launch in India on September 26 October 17 according to Apple India website.

iPhone 6 features a 4.7 inch retina HD 1334-by-750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi while iPhone 6 plus features 5.5 inch retina HD 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi. Both phones run on Apple’s second generation 64-bit chip called A8 and include new M8 co-processor for motion tracking. The new A8 and M8 chips are smaller and more power efficient. The new phones will see a performance boost of up-to 50% and up-to 84% faster GPU performance.

Apple has also include a barometer to measure flight based activities like climbing stairs to be included as a physical activity in the health tracking apps.

The new iPhones will be available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variations. This year Apple has chosen to discontinue the 32GB variant. The pricing of iPhone 6 in the U.S. is $199, $299, $399 for 16GB, 64GB and 128GB respectively. While iPhone 6 plus is priced priced $100 more for each storage tier.

In case you missed it, Apple will unveil two new phones at todays event. The iPhone 6 featuring 4.7 inch display and iPhone 6 plus with 5.5 inch display. iPhone 6 media event

iWatch will mark the first new product category Apple is getting into since Steve Jobs. Many tech pundits had doubts about Apple’s future and often commented that the company lacks inspiration and innovation. Apple TV was touted to be the new product category that Apple will be foraying into, however it seems that it may have to wait for a bit longer.

iPhone 6 media press coverage

Apple is leaving no stone unturned to create a hype around the iPhone 6 and iWatch keynote event. During a media conference Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services said, “later this year, we’ve got the best product pipeline that I’ve seen at Apple in my 25 years at Apple”. The company is preparing to release two new iPhones – 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen size. Both models are expected to be same in terms of hardware and software features; the only difference being the display and battery size.

The report was published by French website which suggests that both models will be released on the same date. This is contrary to previous reports which suggested that the 5.5 inch model would be made available after the 4.7 inch model release date. However, the report does note that the 5.5 inch model could be available in very limited supply as Apple has been experiencing some production delays related to the bigger form factor of “iPhone 6 plus”. The French publication does have a good record of accurately predicting Apple product launches.

September 19 launch date for both the phones seems plausible and goes well with the release cycle of previous iPhones. Apple typically hosts the unveiling event on Tuesday and the device hits the market the following week on a Friday, giving enough time to tech publications for publishing their in-depth reviews of the new device.

Apple will announce the pricing of the new models during the keynote event today; according to various reports the iPhone 6 plus is expected to be priced $100 more in each storage capacity while iPhone 6 will be priced same as current gen iPhone 5S.

Apple’s iPhone 6 keynote event will be live in about two and a half hours from now. The company is widely rumoured to enter into a new product category with the iWatch. The new smart watch from Apple could propel the company in pushing new boundaries in the wearable space.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 Event News Attracts Campers at Flagship 5th Avenue Store Thu, 04 Sep 2014 16:22:10 +0000 Read More]]> With less than 5 days left for Apple to announce iPhone 6 at a media event, the excitement to be the first ones to own the device has resulted in campers lining outside Apple’s flagship 5th Avenue store. Since the introduction of the original iPhone, it has become quite customary for customers to line outside Apple’s retail stores. However, this year the “tradition” seems to be reaching new heights as the iPhone 6 is expected to be available on September 19th so the people waiting outside will be there for at-least two weeks.

The campers often have an ‘agenda’ which is either to gain fame, promote their products or earn some money in exchange of the first spot in the line. Apple has been known to be extremely supportive of its customers lining outside the retail stores by offering food and coffee for free. Other companies are also eager to join the bandwagon by sponsoring the campers with their products of course.

Rob Shoesmith iPhone 4S camper

Rob Shoesmith camped outside Apple’s retail store for 10 days in anticipation of iPhone 4S which got him a lot of media attention and sponsors. This year Jason and Moon Ray got the first spot after paying $2500 to Brian Ceballo and Joseph Cruz of BuyBackWorld. Jason and Moon Ray are promoting a health app called VideoMedicine which can used to videoconference with doctors.

This year Apple is widely expected to announce 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen iPhones. The next iPhone is rumoured to feature sapphire crystal display, improved camera sensor, new biometric sensors, improved battery performance and NFC chip. Analysts report suggest that Apple will finally enter the mobile payment segment with NFC enabled iPhone by partnering with American Express, Visa and MasterCard.

iPhone 6 / iPhone Air is also expected to be available in 128GB capacity in addition to 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. The pricing of these models is unknown however, it is estimated that 5.5 inch model will cost $100 more that the current price points.

Apart from iPhone announcement the company is also rumoured to enter wearable product category. Apple CEO Tim Cook has commented on wearable technology in the past and has noted that the wrist continues to be an area of interest. In the recent past the company has made notable hires from Nike which further fuel the rumours about an iWatch.

All rumours will be put to rest on September 09, 2014 when Apple kicks starts its special iPhone keynote event. Are you excited about the new iPhone 6? Do you think Apple will unveil an iWatch during the event? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 Parts Shown in HD Video Ahead of Release Date Tue, 02 Sep 2014 15:38:29 +0000 Read More]]> Apple product launches are rarely a surprise these days with most details being revealed much before the release date. The keynote events have become increasingly predictive since the iPhone 4 debacle. iPhone 6 / iPhone Air is expected to be announced at a special keynote event on September 9th. From the design to tech specs the rumour mill seems to have access to all the details with quite convincing proofs to prove their credibility.

If the recent part leaks of the upcoming iPhone 6 weren’t enough a new HD video published by Russia-based YouTuber Rozetked, shows the parts of alleged new iPhone completely assembled. The assembled parts are claimed to be of iPhone Air / iPhone 6 which is rumoured to be 4.7 inch in size. This year Apple is expected to release two new iPhones with 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screens sizes.

According to the reports published by various news outlets, iPhone 6 will feature sapphire crystal display, NFC chip, improved camera sensors, longer battery life and new sensors. There has been a lot of debate concerning the cost of the new iPhones as the sapphire crystal displays are costly and very hard to produce. It is possible that 4.7 inch screen size may be available at existing price points however a 5.5 inch screen iPhone could be priced $100 more.

new iPhone 6 Apple will be holding the iPhone event at Flint Center for the Performing Arts which is much bigger than the venues Apple typically selects for new product announcements. It is interesting to note that the company is also building a three-storey structure at the event venue. There have been a few reports about Apple introducing a new wearable product during the event, it is unclear if the new structure is being built to showcase some specific functionality of the wearable product. If rumours are to be believed then the new iWatch(?) will only be demoed at the event, its availability is scheduled for early next year. Steve Jobs introduced the original Macintosh at the same venue almost 30 years ago.

Even though there have been many part leaks and we may have already seen the iPhone 6 which will be announced in 6 days from now it’s possible that a few surprise await us. Are you excited about the event? What are your expectations from the event? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

]]> 0 Apple’s ‘Wish we could say more’ September 9 event likely to announce iPhone 6 Thu, 28 Aug 2014 18:46:43 +0000 Read More]]>

Earlier today Apple sent out media invites for a special event scheduled for September 9th. The invite has Apple logo with the date 9.9.2014 and text that reads “Wish we could say more”. The event is most likely to announce the new iPhone 6.

Various news outlets had published the news about the rumoured event date and today Apple has finally confirmed the date. Unlike previous years this time Apple is hosting the event at Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino. Previously the company has hosted the September event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco or Apple’s Cupertino campus. It’s easy to speculate that this year Apple maybe looking at seating more people for the event as it prepares to announce new hardware models and new product categories.

According to the rumours and reports published by various sources Apple is widely expected to announce two new iPhones. The new iPhone will feature bigger screen size and have two variants. iPhone 6 could be available in 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen size. If this turns out to be true then this would be the first time that the company introduces two new iPhones with different screen size.

iPhone 6 is also rumoured to feature new sensors, improved camera system and possibly also feature NFC.

Apple could also announce new product category by entering the wearables industry with an ‘iWatch’. Recent reports suggest that Apple could finally introduce a smart watch which will connect with the iPhone 6 and provide new ways to interact with our devices. The new wearable product could feature biometric sensors to monitor the user’s body and save vital stats on the iPhone.

Since, iPhone 6 and iWatch are expected to work together harmoniously it does make sense to introduce the new product category along with the smartphone.

With just 13 days left until the iPhone 6 keynote event kicks off, we can expect some new details emerge in the coming days. Apple will put all rumours at rest by unveiling new products on September 9th.

]]> 0 iOS 8 points to iPhone 6 screen resolution to be 828 x 1472 Thu, 21 Aug 2014 18:17:09 +0000 Read More]]> Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 is expected to be announced on September 9th. As the release date nears new details about the highly anticipated smartphone from Apple are being revealed. Recent part leaks seem to provide conclusive evidence that new iPhone 6 will be available in 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen size variations.

A larger display would imply change in the devices’ resolution and according to a new report published by 9to5Mac, iPhone 6 will feature 828 x 1472 pixel resolution. The evidence pointing to this leak was found in iOS 8 files of Xcode 6 SDK beta. The files in the SDK reference to an iPhone with a resolution of 414 x 736. This value is in point format in the SDK so if we double the value, making it Retina resolution, we get 828 x 1472.

For the current generation iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S the SDK references to the point values as 320 x 568 which when doubled gives us the resolution as 640 x 1136.

iPhone 6 Resolution

The new resolution in upcoming iPhone 6 could make room for two additional rows and one additional column on a larger screen. The evidence found in the Xcode files suggests that Apple has been testing the new screen resolution internally. All the speculation and rumours will be finally put to rest when Apple announces the new iPhone at a special media event 19 days from today.

Bigger iPhone could also boast longer battery life. 5.5 inch screen iPhone is expected to support 2,925 mAh battery, while iPhone 5s currently features 1,560 mAh battery. Other features could include new sensors, better camera and could also possibly include NFC.

Are you excited about the new iPhone with a larger screen? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 to ship with reversible lightning to USB cable? Tue, 19 Aug 2014 11:45:38 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 6 new lighting to USB cable

With the of iPhone 5 Apple for the first time since the introduction of iPod changed the charging connector on its mobile devices. The iPhone 5 featured a lighting connector which was smaller and also added the convenience of not knowing which side up, as the connector is reversible. Apple’s executive in support of the new charging connector said that it was going to be standard for the next ten years.

Latest rumours point to evidence that Apple is working on new iPhone 6 charging cable. Sonny Dickson, who is known to share information about Apple’s future product roadmap, posted a photo of the new cable on his Twitter account.

A new smaller lighting cable allowed Apple to make the sixth-gen iPhone thinner and its reversibility made charging your device even easier. Now, it seems that the company may release new lighting to USB cable with the USB port being reversible which will make it very convenient to connect the cable without failing the first few times trying to figure out which direction is correct.

Apple is certainly not the first when it comes to reversible USB cables. There are many third party cables and flash drives that offer reversible ports. However, it will be interesting to see if this rumour turns out to be true.

iPhone 6 is expected to be announced during a special media event on September 9th. It will be made available in two screen sizes 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch variations. The high end model is rumoured to feature sapphire glass. Other features could include NFC, 1GB RAM and better battery life.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 Specs Leak Suggests 1GB RAM and NFC Tue, 19 Aug 2014 06:51:34 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 6 Schematics

According to the latest rumours based on schematics posted by GeekBar, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 could feature NFC and include 1GB RAM. Rumours about Apple including NFC aren’t new there have been many reports even before the introduction of iPhone 5 suggesting that Apple was looking to include Near Field Communications technology. However, Apple introduced AirDrop and PassBook but left out NFC.

This year once again we are hearing about the possibility of NFC in iOS devices. The leaked schematics appears to be design for a NAND flash component according to 9to5Mac.

Todd DeRego, a SoC memory engineer, says that the schematic does not have enough signals for it to be a DRAM interface. He also points out that the AP_TO_NAND text refers to an application processor to NAND link, indicating this memory is actually used as a way of storing the booting firmware and not the main memory of the iPhone. Although the RAM claim is almost certainly untrue, the NFC claim cannot be so easily dismissed.

iPhone 5S just like iPhone 5 features 1GB RAM. Apple hasn’t felt the need to follow in the footsteps of its competitors who market the amount of RAM their smartphone has. Instead Apple has always focused on user experience, even with a dual core 64-bit chip it beats a quad-core Samsung Galaxy S4 in benchmarks.

iPhone 6 release date is expected to be announced at a special media event on September 9th. The new iPhone is widely rumoured to be available in two screen sizes and feature sapphire glass in the high end model.

]]> 0 iPhone 6 Battery Specs and Photos Leak Sun, 17 Aug 2014 20:40:21 +0000 Read More]]> 5.5 inch iPhone 6 battery

It’s that time of the year again when new iPhone release date nears and rumours about new features and hardware specifications reach an all time high. Apple is widely expected to announce iPhone 6 during a special media event in September. Even though the company tries hard to keep its plan a secret, large scale production in Asia and multiple supply partners makes it difficult for the company to keep its new product lineup a secret.

According to various news reports published in the past, iPhone 6 is expected to be available in two variants, 4.7 inch screen and 5.5 inch screen. Recently and Macotakara published photos of the purported batteries of 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch iPhone 6. The leaked photos of the battery reveals that the 4.7 inch variant of the iPhone 6 will feature a capacity of 1,810 mAh. In comparison iPhone 5s features 1,560 mAh battery.

5.5 inch variant of the iPhone 6 will feature a capacity of 2,925 mAh. This could certainly provide much longer battery life. Apple’s competitor Samsung has been aggressively targeting iPhone users, referring to them as wall huggers who constantly need to charge their phones.

4.7 inch iPhone 6 battery leak

Increase in battery life could prove to be a major selling point for Apple’s upcoming smartphone. Since the addition of 3G, 4G and LTE and retina displays, iPhones have become much more power hungry and its difficult to go through the entire day without keeping a charger handy.

As always the authenticity of these leaked photos can’t be confirmed however, the part numbers, dimensions of the battery in the photo and analyst reports published in the past seem to point towards better battery life in the new iPhone 6.

Apple is rumoured to hold iPhone 6 media event on Tuesday, September 9. Are you looking to buy the new iPhone 6? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 5s Number One in UK During Christmas Fri, 03 Jan 2014 21:33:41 +0000 Read More]]> Gold iPhone 5s

The holiday season has been dominated by Apple in the recent past and 2013 Christmas wasn’t any different. Apple’s gold iPhone 5s turned out to be the most popular smartphone during Christmas.

According to data published by for December 2013 iPhone 5s won over Samsung Galaxy S4 for the third consecutive month. The data analysed was based on live searches, pre-orders and sales.

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 also saw some gains in popularity as it rose five places to become the third most popular phone in the UK during the holidays. Apple’s iPhone has been consistently popular with customers as it has topped the charts since March 2013 with iPhone 5 being the most popular phone for seven consecutive months which was later dethroned with the release of iPhone 5s.

In 2013 for the first time Apple released two new iPhone designs in the same year. iPhone 5c the colourful plastic version of iPhone 5c came in fifth in the popular smartphones list for December. Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at said:

The iPhone 5S deserved to be the Christmas number one. As well as giving gleeful members of the cult of Apple hours of fun with its Touch ID feature, which can read more than just fingerprints, it also made gold the new black,

Doku further added that the battle for the top spot wasn’t an easy one. Galaxy S3 rise to the third spot was a surprise with the lower pricing acting as a key factor. Pricing of smartphones certainly act as an important factor since the technology leaps between two generations of products is becoming narrower.

The tech advancement from iPhone 4s to iPhone 5 is not the same as from iPhone 5 to iPhone 5s. Apple is expected to release iPhone 6 in 2014 which could have a new design and even feature larger screen according to many rumours in the recent past.

The price of iPhone 5c could also see reduction later this year as the device has not been as well received with customers as the company would have hoped for.
