According to a report published by CNET and interview with WABC-TV, Johnson bent over to get keys and a “pop” sound followed by smoke started coming out of his pocket.

Johnson who is from Long Island, had to reportedly spend 10 days in a burn unit. He suffered second and third-degree burns on his inner thigh. Apple in a statement to WABC-TV said that the company is investigating the matter. However, according to CBS New York Johnson is considering suing Apple for this mishap.

This isn’t the first time we are hearing about iPhone bursting for unknown reasons. There have been reports in the past about iPhone 4 catching fire and bursting. While in another case the phone blew up while it was charging.

Even though such cases have been fairly limited in number, it does raise concerns about faulty battery in certain devices. In the past, if any particular issue has been found with a component in the devices the company sells, it has initiated replacement and exchange programmes.

We will have to wait for the results of Apple’s investigation regarding this matter. As a general practice it is always advised to use original accessories for your devices to avoid any damage to the battery or other components.

]]> 0 iPhone 5s Number One in UK During Christmas Fri, 03 Jan 2014 21:33:41 +0000 Read More]]> Gold iPhone 5s

The holiday season has been dominated by Apple in the recent past and 2013 Christmas wasn’t any different. Apple’s gold iPhone 5s turned out to be the most popular smartphone during Christmas.

According to data published by for December 2013 iPhone 5s won over Samsung Galaxy S4 for the third consecutive month. The data analysed was based on live searches, pre-orders and sales.

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 also saw some gains in popularity as it rose five places to become the third most popular phone in the UK during the holidays. Apple’s iPhone has been consistently popular with customers as it has topped the charts since March 2013 with iPhone 5 being the most popular phone for seven consecutive months which was later dethroned with the release of iPhone 5s.

In 2013 for the first time Apple released two new iPhone designs in the same year. iPhone 5c the colourful plastic version of iPhone 5c came in fifth in the popular smartphones list for December. Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at said:

The iPhone 5S deserved to be the Christmas number one. As well as giving gleeful members of the cult of Apple hours of fun with its Touch ID feature, which can read more than just fingerprints, it also made gold the new black,

Doku further added that the battle for the top spot wasn’t an easy one. Galaxy S3 rise to the third spot was a surprise with the lower pricing acting as a key factor. Pricing of smartphones certainly act as an important factor since the technology leaps between two generations of products is becoming narrower.

The tech advancement from iPhone 4s to iPhone 5 is not the same as from iPhone 5 to iPhone 5s. Apple is expected to release iPhone 6 in 2014 which could have a new design and even feature larger screen according to many rumours in the recent past.

The price of iPhone 5c could also see reduction later this year as the device has not been as well received with customers as the company would have hoped for.

Apple distribution partner Redington in India has partnered with local banks to provide 0% interest EMI payments to buy any product offered at the retail stores. Various schemes such as reduction on price on exchange of any smartphone has also helped to fuel sales.

]]> 0 iPhone 5s Sales at the Top on All Major U.S. Carriers Mon, 07 Oct 2013 20:55:33 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 5s iPhone 5c carrier performance

The new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c have proved to be a huge success for Apple with more 9 million devices sold during the launch weekend. This is the highest sales for the opening weekend the company has ever recorded. Apple launched new two new iPhones this year with iPhone 5s boasting faster processor, new Touch ID and camera improvements while on the other hand iPhone 5c had the same internals as iPhone 5 but with an all-new look.

According to a new report published by Canaccord, iPhone 5s sales figures topped at all the major U.S. carriers. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 had taken the top spot on Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile for a while however, in September Apple took over as the top smartphone company in terms of sales.

When Apple unveiled the sales figures it did not breakdown the figures for different models. However, this new report sheds some light on the performance of iPhone 5c. The new $100 cheaper iPhone with plastic body performed well on AT&T and Sprint at second position and came third on Verizon and T-Mobile.

Some analysts believe that out of the 9 million iPhone sales in the launch countries iPhone 5s figures could be around 7 million and the remaining could be of the iPhone 5c. With such impressive figures Apple’s strategy to grab more market share could certainly be seen as huge win.

In a market where cheap Android phones outsell the iPhone, Apple has become aggressive by selling two new iPhones this year. Instead of selling iPhone 5 for $100 cheaper the company created an all-new design which would appeal to the young and ‘colorful’. Those who were hoping to buy iPhone 5 at a cheaper price would now have to shell out more money to buy the flagship iPhone.

]]> 3 Apple Inc. Most Valuable Brand in the World Tue, 01 Oct 2013 21:18:04 +0000 Read More]]> Apple most valued brand

Apple Inc. has been steadily building its customer base. In 2007 it entered the smartphone business that introduced the company to many more users than its Mac and iPod business. The company has released hit products year after year breaking all its previous sales records.

The brand loyalty and recognition that Apple enjoys is second to none and now Interbrand has revealed that Apple topped Coca-Cola to become world’s most valuable brand. The soft drink giant enjoyed the number one position for thirteen long years and this year Cupertino, Calif. based company that revolutionised the computer, phone, music and tablet industry has taken over.

The brand ‘Apple’ is synonymous to top quality and customer satisfaction. This is one of the major reasons why loyal Apple fans continue to wait for days outside retail stores ahead of a major product launch.

Apple has been continually setting new standards for itself and the industry in general. With the recent iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch the company broke all records by selling more than 9 million devices. iOS 7 was a successful launch as more than 200 million iOS devices were upgraded to the latest operating system within the launch week.

Every so often, a company changes our lives, not just with its products, but also with its ethos. This is why, following Coca-Cola’s 13-year run at the top of Best Global Brands, Interbrand has a new #1—Apple. Few brands have enabled so many people to do so much so easily, which is why Apple has legions of adoring fans, as evidenced by the record-breaking launch of the iPhone 5c/5s.

This announcement is just another testament of the impact of the Apple brand. The company is on track to announce another product update before the holiday season. New iPad and iPad mini are expected to be announced later this month.

]]> 0 iPhone 5s vs. iPhone 5c Sales Compared 72 Hours After Release Tue, 24 Sep 2013 19:40:30 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 5s vs iPhone 5c sales compared

The latest iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c from Apple went on sale in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on September 20th. Apple recently announced opening weekend sales figures of 9 million iPhones sold. However, the company did not give a breakdown for iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c separately.

Judging by the availability of iPhone 5s models at Apple stores and the slipping of shipping dates to October, it was easy to believe that iPhone 5s is clearly more popular. Now, a new report by Localytics gives us some more insight into how popular is the iPhone 5s vs. iPhone 5c. The analytics company examined 20 million unique iPhones and then analysed the breakdown by country.

The report reveals that China leads in terms of users’ preference for iPhone 5s over iPhone 5c. One of the results for the popularity could be the new gold color. Many analysts believe that in the Asian market gold color phone would be extremely popular.

One possible explanation: there was a lot of hoopla around the addition of the gold-colored iPhone 5s as a very attractive addition in particular for Asian markets so this hypothesis may hold true.

Except the UK all other major markets were reported to have a very high ratio of the 5s vs. the 5c. The reason behind this could be due to subsidies not playing a major role in buyers decision and the fact that the economy is still recovering.

Further, the report highlights that the United States accounts for 68% of all active iPhone 5s and 5c devices. In simple terms, these numbers clearly suggest that more users are opting to buy the all-new iPhone 5s than the iPhone 5c.

Apple’s iPhone 5s comes with improved camera, dual-tone LED flash, 64-bit chip A7 processor and Touch ID fingerprint sensor. This year the company added two new colors to the lineup, introducing space gray and gold. Even though iPhone 5c is available at $100 cheaper the launch weekend certainly suggests more interest in the faster flagship model than the more colorful 5c.

]]> 1 iPhone 5C Pre-Orders Go Live in 10 Countries Fri, 13 Sep 2013 23:54:24 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone5C

Apple unveiled the all-new iPhone 5C during a keynote presentation on September 10th, the phone is now available for pre-order in 10 countries. The company began taking preorders for iPhone 5C at 12:01 am PT on September 13 on

iPhone 5C is also available for pre-order at major carrier partners. The phone is available in 5 colours: green, blue, pink, white and yellow. 5C is available in 16GB and 32GB models and is priced at $99 and $199 respectively with a two year contract. List of countries where the pre-orders have gone live include: U.S., Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom

Technical specifications of iPhone 5C are similar to last years iPhone 5. It features a dual-core A6 chip, 8 megapixel rear camera, 4 inch retina display however, the shell of the phone is now polycarbonate. Apple has improved the front facing camera by featuring a 1.2 megapixel camera and the battery has been slightly improved.

Many believed that iPhone 5C will be a budget phone but, the phone will retail at $549 without a contract which is still very expensive. Apple’s strategy continues to remain the same. The company doesn’t want to cut down its margin and will offer its smartphone at premium price.

Mid-priced smartphones running Android have become increasingly popular in Asia for Samsung. Apple feels confident to compete in the $500-$700 range even for a phone with specifications same as last years and a polycarbonate body.

Third party retailers are offering discounts on the iPhone 5C even before it launches. Walmart is offering 5C at $79 with a two year contract. Even T-Mobile has a deal for no money down and 24 monthly payments of $22.

]]> 1 iPhone 5C: Colorful Polycarbonate Design Meets Apple’s Precision Thu, 12 Sep 2013 16:57:47 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 5C

During the special media event held on September 10th, Apple announced two new iPhones, colorful iPhone 5C and the ‘forward thinking’ iPhone 5S. While many believed that 5C would stand for “cheap” or low priced model, the reality is far from it.

The all-new iPhone 5C is a drastic departure from the design language Apple has been promoting since iPhone 4. Apple sold the original iPhone encased in a metal finish body and then the next two generations were made out of plastic. iPhone 3GS was the last plastic model we saw from Apple until now.

iPhone 5C takes us back to the iPhone 3GS design with some groundbreaking refinements to match up todays technological and engineering advancements. iPhone 5C is other words is like the modern day iPhone 3GS.

5C comes in 5 colorful flavors: green, blue, yellow, pink and white. The body of the iPhone is made out of polycarbonate and in its introductory video Jony Ive says they used plastic “unapologetically”. The company claims that even though the body is plastic it has a firm structure as a metal structure houses the sides of the body and also act as the antennas of the phone.

The colors of the phone are identical to the color palette of iOS 7. It’s no surprise that the marketing, software and hardware teams worked collaboratively at each stage in the making of iPhone 5C. The display is the same as iPhone 5, a retina display with 326 ppi resolution. Dimensions and weight of the device have been slightly altered as 5C stands 4.90 inches tall, 2.33 inches wide, 0.35 inch deep and weighs at 132 grams. When compared with the iPhone 5, the new 5C is heavier and fatter.

The smartphone uses the same dual-core A6 chip that was introduced in iPhone 5. Camera also remains the same with 8 megapixels, single LED flash however, the front facing camera has been improved to 1.2 MP.

iPhone 5C will ship with iOS 7 and feature color coordinated wallpapers. Many analysts believed that this will be a budget phone from Apple however the pricing hasn’t changed much. Just like in previous years when Apple announced a new iPhone the previous gen model would get a price reduction, iPhone 5C receives the same treatment.

It will be available in 16GB / 32GB variations priced at $99 / $199 respectively with two year contract. In contrast, iPhone 5S 16GB model also starts at $199. 5C isn’t the budget phone everyone was expecting from Apple. Without a contract the phone would cost around $700 which is still highly priced for the Asian market.

It’s interesting to note that Apple will continue to sell iPhone 4S for free with a two year contract.

Are you excited about the new iPhone 5C? Will you be pre-ordering the device on September 13th? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

]]> 0 iPhone 5S Release Date Revealed as T-Mobile Issues Blackout Dates? Thu, 29 Aug 2013 20:16:44 +0000 Read More]]> Graphite iPhone 5S

iPhone 5S release date could be set for September 20th as T-Mobile has issued a vacation blackout for its employees starting 20th and ending 22nd. Apple is widely rumored to hold iPhone 5S media event on September 10th so its possible that 20th may in-fact be the release date for the new iPhone.

Apple’s carrier partners usually issue blackout dates in order to make sure that they have maximum workforce during the first week of the launch of a major product. iPhone launch day has traditionally witnessed long queues and such blackout dates have been reported in the past with other carriers as well.

This year Apple is expected to introduce two iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. While iPhone 5S will be the flagship product for 2013, iPhone 5C will be a more economical model geared towards pre-paid users and the Asian market.

iPhone 5S is widely reported to feature dual-led flash, A7 processor expected to be 31% faster, new fingerprint sensor and advanced camera software supported by new motion sensors. The overall design of the new iPhone will remain the same as the current gen phone.

On the other hand iPhone 5C will support a polycarbonate body with a 4inch retina display and will sell in multiple colors. The hardware is expected to run on A6 chip and the same 8 megapixel camera.

If previous years launch is any indication then September 20th launch of iPhone 5S in the United States could be followed by the second round of countries about two weeks later.

]]> 2 Upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C Design Compared in Video Tue, 27 Aug 2013 19:20:59 +0000 Read More]]> Comparison iPhone 5S iPhone 5C iPhone 5

The upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C parts have been leaked by a number of sources in the recent past. Now, a video compares iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and the existing iPhone 5 to show the difference between the back panels.

Gold iPhone 5S appears to have a light gold color rather than a dark shade, the video posted by AppAdvice also shows blue color back panel of the low-cost iPhone 5C. In line with the previous rumors the iPhone 5S back panel shows dual-led flash light while the iPhone 5C shows a slightly thicker with a polycarbonate shell.

When iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S back panels are compared there is not much difference in the appearance except the flash light. While iPhone 5C is expected to be available in multiple colors which would include blue, green, red, yellow and white the front panel will remain black in color.

Rumors suggest next gen iPhone will feature a finger-print sensor under the home button and a new A7 processor that will boost the performance of the device by upto 31%. The iPhone 5C is expected to have the same hardware specification as iPhone 5 and could replace it.

In addition to the light gold iPhone we could also see graphite iPhone 5S as was reported earlier today. If these rumors turn out to be true then it is easy to conclude that Apple is certainly leaving no stone unturned to make this years iPhone another huge success. iPhone 5S is expected to unveiled at a keynote event on September 10th.

It appears that Apple’s plan to double-down on secrecy isn’t going too well. After the iPhone 4 fiasco now it’s iPhone 5C. An employee of Pegatron has apparently leaked photo of “iPhone 5C” in testing mode.

The employee posted a photo of iPhone 5C on her Weibo profile, which has been deleted as the time of writing. The image shows a number of iPhones that appear to be in a white plastic body and black front panel. This photo is in line with the rumors about a plastic iPhone due for launch this year. The screens of the iPhone 5C in the image are probably showing a diagnostic software that is running before the device goes in for packaging.

Apple is rumored to hold an iPhone related media event on September 10th. The event is expected to be about unveiling and announcing the release date of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. This would be the first time since the introduction of the original iPhone that Apple would be announcing two versions of the popular smartphone. iPhone 5C is widely reported to be a cheaper version of the iPhone and will feature a plastic body.

Reports published in the past suggest that iPhone 5C will retain the 4 inch retina display and most hardware features will remain the same as in iPhone 5. The new cheaper iPhone will also reportedly sell in more colors in addition to black and white models.

Are you excited about the new iPhone 5C? Do you think Apple’s decision to manufacture a cheaper iPhone will benefit the company in the long run? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

]]> 2 iOS 7 Beta 6 Releasing Next Week As Last Beta Update? Thu, 15 Aug 2013 19:51:51 +0000 Read More]]> iPhone 5 iOS 7

According to a new report Apple will be releasing iOS 7 beta 6 in the coming week which will reportedly be the last beta update before the gold master (GM) seed.

BGR published a report today claiming that sources familiar with Apple’s plan for iOS 7 release date believe that iOS 7 GM seed will be made available to carriers and Apple partners on September 5th. Developers will get the GM build on September 10th which is the rumored date for Apple’s iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C keynote event.

After Apple and its partners are comfortable with the gold master build, the company will release it to developers on September 10th, the day of the company’s iPhone event where we should see the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C make their first appearances — and they will of course be the first devices to run iOS 7 out of the box.

Public release of the iOS 7 could be a week prior to the release of the new hardware and the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C would sell with iOS 7 pre-installed. Even in the 5th beta of iOS 7 the software is quite stable unlike previous beta versions where the phone would crash or restart.

Most applications we use on a daily basis work just fine with iOS 7 however, developers would need to rush iOS 7 updates for their apps since some features in photography apps like sharing or exporting to camera album don’t always work.

Apple has been long rumored to be working on a low-cost iPhone to compete in the mid-priced segment of the smartphone market. There have been various reports that suggest that iPhone 5C will feature a plastic body and will come is different colors.

Now, SonnyDickson has posted a high resolution video of yellow color back housing of “iPhone 5C”. The increasing number of parts leaks and images of the purported new hardware could suggest that the low-cost iPhone is indeed in the works.

We recently highlighted a report that predicts Apple’s upcoming iPhone event will be held on September 10th. The company is expected to unveil the next-gen iPhone 5S. The new iPhone could feature fingerprint sensor, new camera, dual-led flash and a faster processor.

Apple has always offered the previous gen iPhone at a low cost with the regular carrier contracts. However, the carrier unlocked iPhones price is still quite high. New low-cost iPhone 5C would offer a great opportunity to offer the same iOS ecosystem to more customers at a lower price point even when the phone is bought without a contract.

A lower price point would expose Apple to larger adoption in Asian countries too which has become an important strategy for Apple’s future expansion plans. Apple’s popular integration of hardware and software at a low cost could boost the sales volumes and thus expose new customers to Apple’s ecosystem.

According to a new report, Apple is expected to announce iPhone 5S release date on September 10th during a special keynote event.

AllThingsD published a report about Apple holding a “Big iPhone” media event according to sources familiar with the matter. The next-gen iPhone is rumored to feature internal hardware change and would most likely retain the same design as iPhone 5.

iPhone 5S is expected to feature a finger-print sensor beneath the home button to allow easy phone unlocking experience and could possibly be used to authenticate password log-ins. Among other changes the new hardware could get a higher resolution camera with dual-flash and more RAM.

There hasn’t been much speculation about the next gen chip for the iPhone so it isn’t clear if Apple will use a new chip for the seventh-gen iPhone. Every new release the company loves to brag about speed and battery improvements so its possible that the company has quietly made some enhancements to the next-gen SoC.

Probably the bigger news for some of the customers is a cheaper iPhone widely referred to as “iPhone 5C” that could also be unveiled during the media event. According to analysts the need to compete in the mid-priced smartphone market is an important factor to grow for the Cupertino, Calif. based company. Apple’s major competitor Samsung offers smartphones is various price and size categories and continues to lead in the smartphone market share worldwide.

Apple revolutionised the smartphone category in 2007 when the first iPhone was released and since then its competitors have caught up by offering a lot of choice to customers. It would be interesting to see if Apple decides to sell a low-cost iPhone to capture market share.
