Apple’s Upcoming Foldable iPhone and Samsung’s Latest Innovation
As Apple gears up to introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone in September 2026, Samsung has taken a significant leap by unveiling the Galaxy Z TriFold, a groundbreaking three-panel smartphone! This device includes two hinges and a massive internal display that expands to 10.0 inches (2,160 x 1,584 pixels at 269 ppi) when unfolded. This large screen allows users to run three applications side by side or enjoy a single app on a larger scale similar to an iPad. Additionally, it features DeX mode, which supports desktop-like functionality with the use of an external keyboard and mouse. The external screen measures 6.5 inches.
Design and Build
The TriFold’s design boasts a thickness of 4.2 mm in the central panel and 3.9 mm or 4.0 mm in the external panels, totaling 12.9 mm (excluding the camera bump) when folded. It weighs 309 grams. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro (6.3″) is 8.75 mm thick and weighs 204 grams, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max (6.9″) is of the same thickness but weighs 231 grams. This places the TriFold at the upper limit of what might be considered comfortable for pocket storage.
Hardware and Performance
Inside, the TriFold is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage. It supports both USB-C wired charging and Qi wireless charging, powered by a 5,600 mAh battery. The device features three external cameras—a 200-megapixel wide-angle, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens—as well as two 10-megapixel front cameras. A fingerprint scanner is incorporated into the side of the frame. The hinge is made of titanium, the phone’s structure is aluminum, and it boasts an IP48 certification.
Availability and Pricing
The Galaxy Z TriFold will hit the markets in South Korea on December 12, priced at approximately 3,590,400 won (around €2,300) for the base model with 512 GB of storage. It is set to launch in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates in the following weeks, with a U.S. release slated for the first quarter of 2026. Currently, there is no mention of a European release.
Apple’s Foldable iPhone Details
From what is known so far, Apple’s foldable iPhone will feature a smaller 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch internal display, with special attention to minimizing the visibility of the fold. The frame will be made from aluminum and titanium and is expected to be around 4.8 mm thick. It will include Touch ID integrated into the side button and feature only two rear cameras. Internally, the device will be equipped with an A20 generation chip, Apple C2 modem supporting 5G mmWave, and Apple N1 or N2 chips for WiFi and Bluetooth management, with no physical SIM card slot (eSIM only). Despite the lack of detailed pricing, it is anticipated to cost over €2,000.
