Apple Retail France Aims for QualiRépar Certification
According to a CFDT representative during a recent company works council meeting reported by MacGeneration, Apple Retail France is set to apply for the QualiRépar label. With this certification, Apple Stores would be eligible for a repair bonus, offering discounts of up to 50 euros on certain out-of-warranty repairs.
The discount could go up to 50 euros for a desktop or laptop Mac, 25 euros for an iPad, and also 25 euros for an iPhone, including battery replacements. This repair bonus will only be available to individual customers seeking out-of-warranty repairs and is contingent on several conditions. The device must not be covered by insurance, must be verifiable (via serial number or IMEI), and must not be counterfeit. Only damages that affect normal use are eligible; this means a shattered screen would qualify, but minor scratches would not.
Incentivizing Repairs Over Replacements
The repair bonus was introduced as part of the anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC), aimed at promoting repair over replacing damaged goods. The funding for this bonus comes from financial contributions made by the manufacturers of the products involved.
