Even before its official unveiling, a video of the OnePlus 15 has surfaced online. A YouTuber managed to get early access to the smartphone, providing a sneak peek into what’s in store.
In the competitive high-end market, manufacturers are increasingly catering to mobile gamers by offering rapid display technologies and ever-more powerful CPUs. It is in this environment that the OnePlus 15, still officially unreleased, is already undergoing preliminary testing. This isn’t new for the brand, as several previous OnePlus generations have also leaked in China before their global launch.
The YouTuber Geekerwan is the one who released this early hands-on video, marking a significant leak since OnePlus has made no official announcements yet. According to his findings, the smartphone indeed features the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Recently unveiled by Qualcomm, this processor outperforms the Apple A19 Pro of the iPhone 17 Pro in CPU capabilities. It also surpasses Apple’s GPU, although it trails behind MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500. For an unofficial device, these results are quite revealing.

The leak also confirms the presence of a groundbreaking 165 Hz display, an upgrade from the 120 Hz found on the previous OnePlus 13. In practice, this allows for up to 165 frames per second in compatible games. Tests conducted with slow-motion video demonstrate that this enhanced smoothness significantly alters gameplay dynamics in FPS games, enabling quicker movements, improved precision, and reduced reaction times. While the impact is less dramatic in role-playing or strategy games, it still enhances the sense of responsiveness, which is beneficial during extended play sessions.
The preliminary results suggest that the OnePlus 15 outperforms some direct competitors using the same processor, such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. This could be due to better thermal management or specific software optimizations. OnePlus is also reportedly collaborating with game studios to enable 165 fps support in popular titles like Call of Duty Mobile, Clash of Clans, and League of Legends Mobile. While this hands-on pertains to a Chinese model, we’ll have to wait for the global release slated for late 2025 to see if these enhancements will be available to all users.
