Since the release of iOS 18.4, Apple’s Home app has welcomed a new addition that many have eagerly anticipated: robot vacuums. These cleaning devices can now integrate into Cupertino’s smart home ecosystem through the Matter standard. What functionalities do robot vacuums offer in the Home app? How do they compare to their native manufacturer apps? I explored these questions using the Eufy Omni E25 model.
Integration Requirements
Before diving into the cleaning capabilities, it’s important to understand the prerequisites for adding a robot vacuum to the Home app. First and foremost, an Apple device running at least iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS 15.4 is required. Secondly, the vacuum must be compatible with Matter, a cross-platform standard that allows these devices to be integrated into other ecosystems like Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. Thirdly, an Apple TV or HomePod (mini) is needed to act as a hub, and this device must also be running software version 18.4 at a minimum.
