Anticipated Release of MacBook Pro M5 May Be Delayed
According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, the launch of the MacBook Pro M5 might be postponed to early next year instead of this fall, as was previously expected. Apple had launched the last two updates of the MacBook Pro in October 2024 and October 2023, but now, “internally, Apple is targeting a launch at the beginning of next year”. However, Gurman notes that the schedule is still “uncertain” and does not completely rule out a launch occurring this year. Since the introduction of the Apple Silicon chips, there has already been a precedent with the M2 generation, which debuted in January 2023—the M1 models were released in October 2021.
What to Expect from the Upcoming MacBook Pro M5
While there is some uncertainty about the exact timing of the release, the scope of the update remains unchanged. Apple plans to only replace the current chips with newer, more powerful models and to update some components, including expected support for Wi-Fi 7. However, there will be no significant changes in the design of the device. As Mark Gurman confirms, “the MacBook Pro M5 range will be the last to feature the current design.” Looking ahead, for the next generation, Apple is expected to overhaul its design with the introduction of the M6 chips, featuring a slimmer chassis and the adoption of Tandem OLED displays to replace the current Mini-LED panels.
Considerations for Potential MacBook Pro Buyers
