Anticipated for September, the iPhone 18 Pro Has Begun Production Testing

According to a report by Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone 18 Pro has officially started its initial production testing phase. Typically, Apple transitions from the Design Validation Test (DVT) phase to the Production Validation Test (PVT) phase in February. During this stage, Apple’s subcontractors will set up tooling and segments of assembly lines to confirm manufacturing processes well before the commencement of mass production, which is not expected to start until the summer.

Design and Features of the iPhone 18 Pro

Fixed Focus Digital suggests that the assembly process for the iPhone 18 Pro has not seen significant changes. The chassis is expected to be identical or very similar to that of the iPhone 17 Pro. However, this does not preclude several upgrades in the internal components. Visually, the iPhone 18 Pro may be distinguished by only two new features: a narrower Dynamic Island and a new deep red color option. Further technical innovations expected this year can be found detailed in another article.

Production Testing Phase Triggers Leak Season

The initiation of the production testing phase for the iPhone 18 Pro typically marks the beginning of leaks from Apple’s subcontractors. Last year, CAD files for the entire iPhone 17 range were available by February 24, and photos of an iPhone Air chassis had surfaced as early as January 21. So far, there has been no leak concerning the iPhone 18 range (it is worth noting that the standard iPhone 18 is not expected until the beginning of 2027 with the iPhone 18e), but leaks are likely imminent.
