iPhone 17 Proves Inferior to Its Predecessor: Apple Explains Lower Pricing Strategy

October 8, 2025

L’iPhone 17e serait beaucoup moins bon que son prédecesseur, Apple va justifier son petit prix

In his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman cautions that we shouldn’t expect any groundbreaking changes with the iPhone 17e. Apple has taken notes from its predecessor, which was largely considered superior to the standard iPhone 16 – and was cheaper too. It seems this year will be different.

This year, Apple launched an entirely new line of iPhones with the iPhone 16e. This immediately raised the question: Is this the iPhone with the best value for money? It’s a valid question, given that the smartphone significantly outperformed the standard iPhone 16 while being more affordable. Indeed, the new “e” series aims to offer an entry-level iPhone suitable for tighter budgets.

Thus, naturally, after the release of the iPhone 17 a few weeks ago, attention has turned to the iPhone 17e. It is likely to be launched in the spring of 2026 – a few months after its predecessor, which was released in February. That being said, it might be wise to wait before rushing to purchase it. According to tech journalist Mark Gurman, the upcoming budget-friendly smartphone from Apple may not be as impressive.

The iPhone 17e Might Disappoint Many

Mark Gurman is straightforward. If you are considering buying the standard iPhone 17 but are waiting for the iPhone 17e to make a decision, there is no longer a need to wait. He hasn’t revealed any technical details, but he indicates that Apple will ensure it does not outperform the standard iPhone 17, so as to avoid confusion in this year’s already extensive lineup – which includes the new iPhone 17 Air.

However, we do know that the smartphone is expected to feature a 60 Hz display and will have the same camera sensors as its predecessor. There’s also some consolation with a brand new design, which will closely resemble that of the standard iPhone 16. Additionally, it is very likely to be powered by the A19 processor, the latest chip from the tech giant.
