New Feature in iOS 26: Camera Cleanliness Alert
The latest iOS 26 update introduces a default feature that notifies users when the camera lens is deemed too dirty. This enhancement was first noticed by the technology experts at iGeneration. The system, even before a photo is taken, detects any image impairment and issues a warning indicating that the lens requires cleaning. According to initial tests, however, this feature can be somewhat erratic. For instance, it might fail to trigger an alert even if the lens is covered in jam, yet it might activate for minor contaminants like a drop of water or a smear of sunscreen. It’s precisely in these scenarios, where subtle visual flaws might be overlooked by the user, that the functionality proves most beneficial.

Availability Limited to Latest Models
This new option appears to be exclusive to the very latest models; it was available on our iPhone 15 Pro but not on the iPhone 14 Pro. For those who find it unnecessary, the feature can be turned off in Settings > Camera > Lens Cleaning Tips. It is important to note that this feature is unique to the iPhone and does not appear in iPadOS 26.
