Details are emerging about the anticipated 24MP photo mode on the Galaxy S26, revealing more about how it works and a significant limitation that may disappoint many.
The unveiling of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 is just around the corner. Many are eagerly awaiting the release of the South Korean brand’s latest flagship smartphones, although not all the recent news has been positive. While the pricing of the S26 has been a pleasant surprise, other aspects such as the technical specifications show some improvements, but also stagnations and even steps back in areas like the chassis of the S26 Ultra.
As for the 24MP photo mode expected in all models of the series, it’s a mix of good and bad news. Thanks to leaker Ice Universe, we now have more insight into how it operates and importantly, about a limitation that might raise some eyebrows. It’s worth noting that this mode is different from the one found in the Galaxy Expert Raw app, even though it shares the same name.
How the 24MP Photo Mode on the Galaxy S26 is Expected to Work
Initially, this feature won’t be available by default. It must be enabled in the advanced settings of the Camera Assistant app. The 24MP mode is applicable to both Photo and Portrait modes, and it takes about 3 seconds after pressing the shutter button to capture an image.

According to Ice Universe, the results are significantly better than those from the Expert Raw app. The user noted the absence of certain flaws typical of the latter, such as overly detailed images or colored artifacts in some cases.
This option seems promising, yet there’s a major catch: the 24MP photo mode will be exclusive to the Galaxy S26. Even if other smartphones have the same sensors as the S26 models, upgrading to the latest model will be necessary to use this feature. While this may not always be the case, for now, it’s the only option. The Samsung Galaxy S26 is expected to be launched on February 25, 2026.
