De la mémoire chinoise pour les produits d'Apple vendus en Chine ?

Apple’s Response to Memory Crisis: Price Increases and Congressional Appeals

Last month, Tim Cook announced that Apple would be raising its prices in response to the ongoing memory crisis. He also urged the U.S. Congress to reconsider its stance towards Chinese manufacturers currently blacklisted by the Pentagon due to their alleged connections with the People’s Liberation Army. Recently, Mark Gurman reported on Bloomberg that Apple has started negotiations with Chinese chipmakers CXMT and YMTC for purchasing their memory chips. If these discussions progress without U.S. government approval, the chips would only be used in Apple products sold within the Chinese market, which is large enough to provide some relief to Apple’s supply chain.

Apple’s Delicate Balancing Act

Technically, Apple is allowed to source from these two Chinese companies. However, the company is aware that striking such a deal might be frowned upon in its home market. This is why Apple is actively lobbying for Washington’s approval before proceeding. The lobbying efforts initiated by Tim Cook a few weeks ago have primarily led to outrage among U.S. politicians. Currently, Apple sources its chips from three suppliers: American company Micron, and South Korean firms Samsung and SK Hynix. Due to significant price hikes driven by AI industry demand, Apple significantly increased some of its prices at the end of June and warned that this might just be the beginning.
