Apple’s Latest Innovation: Cases with Touch-Sensitive Buttons Unveiled!

Apple travaillerait à des coques dotées de boutons tactiles
According to sources at Instant Digital, Apple is reportedly working on incorporating touch-sensitive buttons into future iPhone case models. This initiative seems to be part of a broader strategy as revealed by a patent application filed by Apple in 2024. The patent describes a case equipped with additional buttons not found on the iPhone itself, featuring a wireless communication system that could utilize NFC located at the back of the phone.

This innovative concept could enable the addition of extra buttons on the iPhone while maintaining access to the USB-C port. However, with Apple’s typical approach to design and functionality, the implementation may be more intricate than it appears. There are rumors suggesting that the iPhone 20, expected to be released in 2027, might eliminate its mechanical buttons in favor of capacitive ones. These would be built directly into the frame of the device and would operate without any physical movement, simulating the clicking sensation through a vibration. Furthermore, Apple might completely redesign the iPhone’s edges with a screen that curves around all four sides, which might pose compatibility issues with traditional cases.
