Alan Dye Leaves Apple Design Studio for Meta

Apple has confirmed to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that Alan Dye is exiting the company’s design studio to join Meta. Since 2015, Dye had been leading Apple’s interface design team, even before Jony Ive’s departure in 2019. He worked under Evans Hankey and, most recently, Molly Anderson since last year. Dye’s move marks a significant departure for Apple as the year draws to a close. He reportedly informed Apple of his decision this week, but according to Bloomberg, “the leadership was already preparing for it.” Dye is set to become the head of design at Meta starting December 31.

Steve Lemay to Succeed Alan Dye

Apple announced this evening that Steve Lemay will step into the role vacated by Dye through an internal promotion. “Steve Lemay has been instrumental in shaping every major interface at Apple since 1999,” said CEO Tim Cook in a statement. He added, “He has consistently set a high standard for excellence and embodies Apple’s culture of collaboration and creativity.”

Apple Reassures Continuity in Design Team

Amidst the changes, Apple seeks to reassure stakeholders about the stability and continuity of its design team. “Design is fundamental to Apple’s identity, and today, we have an extraordinary design team working on the most innovative product range in our history,” stated Tim Cook.
