The new iPhone Duo has been turning heads because it blends smartphone and tablet characteristics into a single product. It’s an intriguing idea, but with a roughly $2,000 price tag it’s well outside what most people will want to pay. That makes Prime Day iPad bargains more attractive for anyone who wants an Apple tablet without the high-end cost.
If your goal is to get the most value while still enjoying a proper iPad experience when you need it, the current offer on Apple’s 11-inch entry-level iPad is worth a look. Amazon has knocked $50 off the base model, bringing it down to $399 from its usual $449.
This promotion doesn’t restore the iPad 11 to its earlier $349 price before Apple raised prices, but deep Apple discounts are infrequent. Given that widespread price cuts are unlikely in the near term, this is a reasonable chance to buy an Apple tablet for less than usual.
There are trade-offs for choosing the least expensive iPad in Apple’s lineup. This particular configuration is Wi‑Fi only; adding cellular connectivity will set you back about another $150. It also lacks the anti‑reflective, matte treatment used on some higher-end Apple displays. In practical terms, the entry-level Liquid Retina screen is glossy and can produce strong reflections in bright environments or at certain viewing angles. Performance-wise, it runs on the A16 Bionic chip rather than the newer A20 Pro, and it ships with a single main camera instead of a multi-camera setup.
None of that necessarily makes it a poor device. The 11-inch display still gives you ample room for tablet tasks: reading, watching shows, sketching, taking notes and more. For drawing or handwriting you’ll want a stylus — Apple’s USB‑C Pencil is sold separately — and having a Pencil changes the experience substantially. The Pencil is a straightforward accessory, designed for accurate input and magnetically attaching to the iPad; it’s currently discounted to $69 from $79 at Amazon.
Battery endurance on the iPad 11 is solid. In Tom’s Guide’s custom battery test it clocked in at 11 hours and 25 minutes on a single charge. That’s nearly an hour more than the iPad mini 7 managed in the same test, though it falls short of the iPad Pro M4, which lasted about 13 hours and 13 minutes.
If you want a plain‑spoken iPad experience without paying top dollar for the Air, Pro or other premium Apple devices — or for a pricey hybrid like the iPhone Duo — the 11‑inch entry model remains a sensible and cost-effective option.
