Case Compatibility for the Upcoming iPhone 18 Pro
Cases designed for the anticipated iPhone 18 Pro, set to be released in September, are expected to fit the iPhone 17 Pro as well. This information comes from a case model by Otterbox, as shared by Mark Gurman, which indicates on its packaging that it is compatible with both generations of the Pro models. Vadim Yuryev has confirmed this compatibility, noting that his industrial models of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max align perfectly with the cases from the previous generation.
According to measurements taken by Vadim Yuryev, the dimensions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max have slightly increased, with the width expanding from 77.59 mm to 77.98 mm and the height from 163.04 mm to 163.40 mm, while the thickness of the chassis remains unchanged at 8.75 mm. The camera bumps are more pronounced, with the total thickness reaching 13.77 mm compared to the previous 12.92 mm, and the camera plateau has also thickened slightly to 11.54 mm from 11.23 mm. Additionally, the diameter of the three cameras has increased to 16.51 mm from 16.16 mm.
These differences are minimal enough that they do not affect the compatibility of the cases. However, caution is advised: while cases designed for the iPhone 18 Pro might fit the iPhone 17 Pro, the reverse might not always be true, especially for models that cover the camera plateau. This should be checked on a case-by-case basis.
