This fall, specifically in October, Apple is set to launch a redesigned version of the iPad mini featuring an OLED screen, as reported today by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. The journalist didn’t provide much new information, only mentioning the switch to an OLED panel that will deliver the so-called “true blacks” that this technology offers, currently exclusive to the iPad Pro.

Speculative Features and Potential Omissions

Recent speculations suggest that the dynamic refresh rate of ProMotion, which adjusts from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, might be missing, leaving the refresh rate fixed at 60 Hz, although this hasn’t been confirmed by well-established sources. The screen size is rumored to increase slightly from 8.3 inches to 8.4 inches without altering the overall dimensions of the device, thanks to a slight reduction in the screen’s bezel. Last October, Gurman also reported that Apple had tested a waterproof design featuring “a new speaker system that uses vibration-based technology.”

Expected Upgrades and Performance Enhancements

The usual updates are anticipated, starting with the integration of a newer, more robust chip. The current iPad mini runs on the A17 Pro chip. The upcoming model might feature the A19 Pro or the yet-to-be-released A20 Pro chip, though it’s still uncertain. Regardless, the device is expected to boost its RAM from 8 GB to 12 GB, supporting the most powerful models of Apple Intelligence. It’s also likely to include the Apple N1 chip for managing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and possibly the Apple C1 or C1X modem for cellular models.

Price Increase Alert

In response to soaring memory costs, Apple significantly raised the prices of its tablets at the end of June. Previously sold starting at 559 euros, the iPad mini is now listed starting at 689 euros on the Apple Store.
