iOS Keyboard Enhancements with iOS 27
Already known for its ability to automatically retrieve temporary codes sent via SMS, the iOS keyboard has expanded its functionality with the introduction of iOS 27 to include copy-paste capabilities. It now offers suggestions for inserting text, images, files, or links and indicates the source application of these items. To protect user privacy, this feature is designed to only suggest data that was recently copied—it will not display clipboard contents if they are from a few minutes ago or if the iPhone has been locked in the meantime.
Current Limitations and Future Improvements
As observed by our colleagues at iGeneration, this new system appears to be quite basic and only functions when the text field is empty. Even with a clear prompt as seen in the example illustration above, iOS does not seem to recognize an attempt to access the clipboard. It is unclear at this stage whether this behavior is due to a bug or if it is an intentional limitation. Nevertheless, Apple will have the opportunity to refine this feature in upcoming beta versions, as the release of iOS 27 is not expected until September.
