Denon Home 600 Review: This Smart Speaker Almost Does It All!

The Denon Home 600 is the flagship model of the Denon Home series, introduced in March 2026 alongside the Denon Home 400 and the more compact, accessible Home 200 (review available here). This trio represents a significant revitalization of the Japanese brand’s line of smart speakers, aiming to deliver audiophile-quality sound, HEOS multi-room functionality, and Dolby Atmos Music all in a single device.

Positioned as a direct competitor to the Sonos Five, the Home 600 features an ambitious eight-speaker acoustic architecture, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, and extensive sound customization options. It redefines the capabilities of an all-in-one smart speaker.

Priced at 699 euros, it targets music lovers seeking an immersive, powerful, and versatile listening experience in spaces up to 60 m². Here are my thoughts.

The Denon Home 600 sports a sleek and elegant design, with a large casing measuring 451 × 226 × 251 mm.

It features a fine acoustic fabric on the top, while the front is dominated by a wide grille. The base is made of matte plastic, delivering a visually coherent and appealing finish. Ideally, an aluminum frame would better suit its premium positioning, but it remains satisfactory as is. The speaker is available in two colors: Stone (light grey) and Charcoal (dark grey). The rounded back is also covered with a grille to facilitate sound passage.

Underneath, two quarter-inch threads allow the speaker to be mounted on an optional stand or wall mount, necessary due to its 8 kg weight.

On the front, beneath the grille, a discreet LED indicator shows the speaker’s status, with options to adjust brightness or turn it off completely via the HEOS app—useful for a home cinema setting where any light can be distracting.

On the top, there are seven physical buttons for volume control, microphone management, and accessing three programmable shortcuts via the app.

The Denon Home 600 is a multi-protocol speaker, designed to adapt to various user scenarios. It includes dual-band Wi-Fi (the primary protocol for high-quality streaming), Bluetooth (SBC and AAC), AirPlay 2 for integration with Apple’s ecosystem, and HEOS multi-room. It natively supports major streaming services like Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music HD, and TuneIn.

For physical connections, the Home 600 introduces a USB-C audio port for direct connection to a computer or digital source, along with a PowerBank feature to charge a smartphone. There’s also a 3.5 mm jack input for analog sources (pre-amplified turntable, CD player, DAP). The only downside is the lack of aptX support in Bluetooth, surprising at this price point, which limits wireless transmission performance to the AAC codec. However, for high-quality listening, Wi-Fi remains the preferred option.

Beyond placement presets, the Home 600 allows the creation of a wireless stereo pair between two units and can build a fully wireless 5.1 system when combined with the Denon Home Sound Bar 550 and the Denon Home Sub. This modularity is valuable, although it is limited to the Denon Home ecosystem: surround use with a Denon or Marantz amplifier is not yet supported.

The Denon Home 600 is based on a sophisticated 2.1.2 channel acoustic architecture. It features eight speakers and eight class D amplifiers, each dedicated to a single driver. This independent amplification ensures precise control of each register and overall sound consistency—a design inspired by high-end multi-way hi-fi systems.

Specifically, it includes two 19 mm tweeters for precise and airy high-frequency reproduction; two 66 mm mid-range drivers for clear voice and acoustic instrument output; two 66 mm up-firing drivers dedicated to Dolby Atmos Music height effects, and two 165 mm woofers (one mounted at the rear for 360-degree sound dispersion) responsible for low frequencies and physical impact.

The standout feature is undoubtedly the two upfiring drivers. By reflecting part of the sound off the ceiling, they create a sense of height, giving Dolby Atmos Music content a truly vertical dimension, rather than one simulated by DSP. The two 165 mm woofers, with one radiating towards the rear, ensure an omnidirectional bass presence that fills the space evenly, regardless of the speaker’s placement in the room. This design differs from the Sonos Era 300 and Sonos Five, which are front-firing only.

Regarding setup, note that during configuration (and also afterward), the speaker’s location relative to walls (far from walls, near a wall, or near two walls) is defined. This allows the system to automatically optimize audio output accordingly.

Setting up the Denon Home 600 takes just a few minutes via the HEOS app, available on iOS and Android. The process is guided and intuitive: connect to Wi-Fi, automatically detect the speaker, and link to a HEOS account to access integrated streaming services. No step is complex, and no setting is esoteric: Denon’s “ready to play” philosophy truly delivers.

The HEOS app provides advanced multi-room management: independent volume for each room, speaker grouping, source and content selection. It’s possible to save shortcuts to the physical buttons to instantly recall a previously chosen source. Remember the three acoustic placement presets (far from walls, near a wall, near two walls) that adjust the DSP treatment to the speaker’s actual environment. More uniquely, the app allows the choice between two audio modes.

You can select the Auto mode, which balances the sound for all inputs and audio formats received, or the Pure mode, which disables surround processing for a more natural sound. Personal preference will vary, and it’s great to have such an option.

While the speaker does not have a proper graphic equalizer, Denon has opted to provide simpler controls for most users: adjustments for bass and treble, and uniquely, for width and height. A slider lets you increase or decrease the corresponding effects.

Denon Home 600Audio Quality and Listening Session

From the first listening sessions, the Denon Home 600 presents a rich and assertive sound signature, with very present bass that adds body and depth to the overall spectrum. The soundstage expands progressively as the volume increases, offering an immersive and enveloping experience well-suited for large spaces. The mids are well-defined, clear, and precise, though they are slightly dominated by the imposing bass that colors the general signature of the speaker.

“Blinding Lights” — The Weeknd: The bass is deep, broad, and physically present. I found that the kick hit with rare conviction for an all-in-one speaker, and the bass synth literally filled the room. The soundstage opens in width with impressive clarity, creating a wall of sound that perfectly suits the highly produced style of the track.

“Skyfall” — Adele: Here, the speaker shows its ability to handle big voices and orchestral swells with authority. Adele’s voice stands out with striking presence, well-forward without being aggressive, while the strings and brass gain depth during the chorus swells.

“Lose Yourself to Dance” — Daft Punk: A real playground for the Home 600. The bass drum hits hard, the funky guitars are precise, engaging, and well-separated in the mix, and the filtered voices remain intelligible at the center. The speaker delivers a live concert feel at home, with a dynamic range that invites you to turn up the volume without ever compressing or distorting.

“Drivers License” (Dolby Atmos Music) — Olivia Rodrigo: This is where the Home 600 truly distinguishes itself from the competition. The ceiling-directed drivers convincingly reproduce height effects. Thus, the reverb gains verticality, some mix elements seem to float slightly above or behind the listening position. The voice gains in relief, and the sound space becomes three-dimensional.
