Apple Plans to Integrate AI Chatbots into CarPlay
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is set to introduce support for artificial intelligence chatbots in CarPlay in the coming months. Currently, Siri is the only supported voice assistant in Apple’s automotive version of iOS. With the upcoming update, drivers might be able to engage with AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for their queries. This feature could potentially be part of iOS 26.4, which will include an updated version of Siri powered by Gemini, or it could be introduced in iOS 27, which is expected to be unveiled at the WWDC and released in September.
Integration Specifics and User Interaction
Gurman notes that similar to the iPhone, it will not be possible to replace Siri with a different chatbot using the dedicated button in the vehicle. Users will need to first open the application associated with the desired chatbot. To minimize unnecessary interactions, Apple is reportedly planning a mode that would activate voice listening as soon as the app is opened.
