With One UI 8.5, your Samsung smartphone should more effectively choose between Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

Samsung is currently developing One UI 8.5, a minor update that aims to enhance the latest major version of its software overlay. This update will be available for all smartphones that are compatible with One UI 8, and it is expected to improve internet connectivity performance among other features.

According to SammyGuru, One UI 8.5 will incorporate several new Wi-Fi settings to boost network connection reliability. For instance, a ‘Real-Time Data Priority’ mode has been included, which allocates available bandwidth primarily for video calls or online gaming. Consequently, background data usage, such as application update downloads, becomes a secondary priority. However, the exact differences between this new option and the ‘Prioritize Real-Time Data’ feature from One UI 8 are not yet clear.

Mobile Network or Wi-Fi? One UI 8.5 Decides for You

Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile networks is another focus area for Samsung. Two AI-based options are expected in One UI 8.5 regarding this. The ‘Intelligent Link Assessment’ feature will learn from Wi-Fi connection data to intelligently switch to mobile data when needed.

The ‘Intelligent Network Switch’ will toggle between Wi-Fi and mobile networks based on the Wi-Fi transfer history as the user moves around. While the specifics are not entirely clear, it suggests that the system will better adapt to your habits to decide whether to use a home or mobile network. For example, if you leave your home and the Wi-Fi network is still within range but not strong enough, such as in your building’s elevator, the device would automatically switch to the mobile network if you usually manually disconnect from Wi-Fi at that point.

Samsung is certainly striving to advance the network experience in a positive direction. It is hoped that these features will perform effectively once they are released. One UI 8.5 is expected to roll out in early 2026 alongside the Galaxy S26.
