Silent & Durable Honor Laptop Under €1000: But There’s One Annoying Flaw!

July 26, 2026

J’ai testé un PC portable Honor silencieux et endurant à moins de 1 000 euros, mais un détail me fâche
Honor has consistently delivered excellent value with its MagicBook series, and the MagicBook 16 from 2026 is no exception, though it comes with some compromises.

Honor has been a reliable name in the laptop market, offering configurations that are easy to recommend due to their excellent performance at competitive prices. Despite facing the challenges of a component crisis, the Honor MagicBook 16 remains accessible.

Design

Don’t expect Honor to provide a groundbreaking laptop design; that’s not their market strategy. The MagicBook 16 continues the tradition of its predecessors with a timeless all-metal gray design.

The design is well-crafted, rounded, lightweight at 1.64 kilograms, making it easy to carry, and overall pleasant to handle.

There isn’t much more to say, except that Honor has not compromised on this aspect. The MagicBook 16 upholds its family tradition, and the challenging times have not forced it to make concessions here.

If you appreciate modern laptops, you will have a contemporary laptop that won’t stand out awkwardly whether in a meeting or on your home desk.

Keyboard and Touchpad

This is where we particularly appreciate Honor. The brand consistently offers comfortable keyboards, and it’s the same story with this model, featuring keys with pleasant travel and just the right amount of bounce. The numeric keypad is also sufficiently large for easy use.

The touchpad may be a weak point. Its size isn’t very large by current standards, and its plastic surface does not slide as smoothly as one might like. However, it remains high-quality and easy to use daily.

Ports and Connectivity

On the left side, there’s an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and a combination audio jack. On the right, there are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports. For wireless connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

While quite standard, we would have loved to see support for Wi-Fi 6E at the very least, since the lack of 6 GHz compatibility seems like a significant limitation for the longevity of this setup.

Webcam and Audio

We didn’t expect much from this 720p webcam, and it delivers just that. The quality is poor, but this is an acceptable compromise.

The audio experience is similar. The two speakers located under the chassis lack bass but at least don’t distort and maintain a decent clarity in the highs. They are passable for watching videos, far from the worst audio setup we’ve encountered in similar devices, but nothing to get excited about.

Display

The Honor MagicBook 16 from 2026 features a 16-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, essentially Full HD in a 16:10 format. The screen is traditional with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and is matte to reduce glare.

Using our probe and CalMAN software from Portrait Displays, we found a coverage of 58% of the sRGB color space and 39% of the DCI-P3 space. The maximum brightness is measured at 327 cd/m² with a contrast ratio of 1268:1, which is satisfactory for an IPS LCD.

The average color temperature is 6987K, cooler than expected, with a high average delta e00 of 7.44, which is not ideal. However, the manufacturer is quite honest about the quality of this panel: it’s mediocre. Very average for a 2026 computer even at an affordable price. Today, full sRGB coverage is a must, and it’s disappointing not to see it here, although the screen remains usable indoors.

Software

Honor has consolidated most of its additional applications under the Workstation banner, which primarily provides integration with other Honor products. Otherwise, there’s the usual PC Manager for managing updates and fine-tuning the device’s behavior on a daily basis.

Nothing bad, nothing exceptional, just very basic, which isn’t regrettable to see on this setup nor particularly exciting to use.

Performance

In our test configuration in France, the Honor MagicBook 16 is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 5 325 SoC. This is one of the smaller options available under the Panther Lake banner, with 8 cores and 8 threads that can turbo up to 4.5 GHz. Forget the Intel Arc graphics that have been popular; here, we find the older Intel Graphics. The SoC is paired with 16 GB of LPDDR5XD RAM at 7467 MT/s, and 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage.

Benchmarks

In Cinebench 2024, we see scores of 600 points in multi-core and 114 points in single-core. In the 2026 version, this translates to scores of 2,665 points in multi-threading and 462 points in single-threading.

While not top-tier, and the multi-threaded performance won’t allow for heavy productivity tasks, the single-thread performance is very good and ensures smooth operation, especially paired with 16 GB of RAM.

For graphics, no good surprises: with a score of 2349 points on Steel Nomad Light, it can handle light 2D gaming and enough video editing for social media in portrait format, but not much more. Not that this configuration needed it, anyway.

Cooling and Noise

One of the great strengths of this Honor MagicBook 16 is its ability to remain quiet, regardless of usage conditions. Given its size relative to its modest configuration, there’s no need to ramp up the fans excessively. The chassis reaches a maximum of 46°C, and the overall user experience is outstanding.

Battery Life

In France, the Honor MagicBook 16 includes an 80 Wh battery, which charges using an optionally provided power block. The setup is compatible with the Power Delivery standard and accepts all types of chargers that comply with this standard.

In typical office use with the screen set to 50% brightness, the battery lasts between 11 and 12 hours. For its size and purpose, this is excellent. It may not reach the record highs of the latest Mac or Windows PCs, but it remains within modern norms.

Price and Availability

The Honor MagicBook 16 from 2026 is already available in France at a price of 999.90 euros for the standard configuration. This is slightly higher than previous models from the manufacturer, but remains competitive in the current crisis context.
