Brilliant tablet, poor laptop replacement

Priced starting at $1,199, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra maintains the grandeur of its sizable predecessors. For those in the market for a maximally large tablet, this behemoth fits the bill. Although it retains the sleek design and stunning OLED display we’ve grown accustomed to, it falls short of being the laptop substitute it claims to be.

The 14.6-inch OLED screen remains a highlight, offering a viewing experience that, while less impressive than the iPad Pro M5’s 13-inch screen, benefits from its larger size. The expansive screen enhances video watching and gaming significantly.

Despite its substantial size, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is notably slender and light, making it easy to forget in a backpack. Yet, its large dimensions can make it cumbersome to hold for extended periods.

The latest MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ processor ensures that the Tab S11 Ultra performs robustly across various applications, from writing on Google Docs to gaming on Android. Plus, Android 16 offers the smoothest tablet experience I’ve encountered.

While there are many positives to the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, it also comes with compromises. The most significant drawback is the less effective DeX Mode. Additionally, the lack of a touchpad on the Book Cover Keyboard necessitates using touch controls or a separate mouse, which is inconvenient.

  • What is it? The latest in Samsung’s line of oversized Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra comes equipped with a new MediaTek Dimensity chipset.
  • Who is it for? Ideal for anyone seeking a nearly 15-inch OLED tablet that can somewhat serve as a laptop alternative.
  • How much does it cost? Starting at $1,199 for a 256GB model, prices rise to $1,619 for the 1TB version, available on Samsung’s official site.
  • What do we like? The large, vivid OLED display, its light build, robust performance, and extended battery life are highlights.
  • What don’t we like? It’s uncomfortable to hold for long durations, and DeX Mode is not as practical as it used to be.
