On Monday, Plano, Texas based, JC Penney fired Ron Johnson as their Chief Executive Officer, leaving the company with no replacement as of yet. Johnson took the job as CEO after resigning from Apple as the senior vice president of Retail Operation.

Johnson was at Apple for over 12 years, helping to create the company’s iconic Apple Stores and the Genius Bar for technical support. CNBC reported the firing of JC Penney’s chief via its Twitter account, taking note of the department store chain’s stock quote in the tweet.

After Johnson left for JC Penney in late 2011, John Browett took his place as retail chief. However, Browett was later ousted from the company only after a year, alongside iOS chief Scott Forstall, leaving the position open and the executive positioning at the company unstable.

A number of sources online are noting that Johnson could potentially move back into his old position at Apple, which would allow the company to revert back to some of its old retail operations and even draw from Johnson’s new experience at JC Penney. It is unclear who JC Penney will hire as their new CEO and what Apple will do with their vacancy in retail.
