An Innovative Way to Play: Control a Video Game Using AirPods
For the first time ever, a video game has been developed that can be controlled using… AirPods. Named Ridepods, this free game available on the App Store utilizes the accelerometer data from Apple’s wireless earphones to steer a motorcycle by merely moving the user’s head. Ridepods harnesses the same type of data used for spatial audio, similar to the functionality in Siri that allows users to nod their head to answer yes or no to questions. In this game, players navigate a speeding motorcycle, dodging cars by tilting their heads left or right.
Game Features and Technology
Although the game features basic graphics and a straightforward concept, it stands out due to its novel use of the AirPod sensors. This unique approach cleverly bypasses any issues with the App Store’s validation team. To play the game, users need iOS 15.6 (or iPadOS 15.6) or a later version, and it supports AirPods 3, 4, Pro (all generations), or Max.
