Revolutionary OLED iPad Air Set for 2027 Debut: But At What Price?

April 19, 2026

iPad Air OLED tipped for long-overdue 2027 launch, but at what cost?

The time is ripe for this essential iPad Air update

In my opinion, the iPad Air is the ideal tablet for most users because it strikes a perfect balance between price and performance within Apple’s lineup. While the iPad Pro might be too much for everyday needs, and the basic iPad 11 lacks features for those wanting more from their device, the iPad Air fits just right.

So, when the iPad Air M4 was released last month, I was all set to head to my local Apple store and swap my old 2020 model for the new one. However, one thing made me hesitate: the iPad Air still doesn’t have an OLED screen.

A recent report from ETNews, citing a source within the industry, claimed that Samsung Display is preparing to start mass production of displays for a new OLED iPad Air, which is expected to be announced in March 2027.

How Will OLED Affect the Price?

With Apple currently enjoying a strong reputation for affordable technology, thanks to devices like the MacBook Neo, adding an OLED screen to the iPad Air could potentially lead to a price increase from the current $599/£599 MSRP.

The starting price for the iPad Pro is $999 / £999, so it’s conceivable that an iPad Air with an OLED screen could end up costing around $749 or more, especially with current fluctuations in RAM prices.

Would you be tempted to upgrade to an iPad Air with an OLED display? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
