NotebookLM sur iOS et Android : l’application gratuite est disponible en France

Just hours before the start of the Google I/O conference, Google has officially announced the launch of NotebookLM for iOS and Android devices. This app notably offers the ability to generate podcasts from multiple sources.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, on the eve of the Google I/O developer conference, Google made an official announcement regarding the launch of NotebookLM on iOS and Android platforms. Previously only available as a desktop version, this AI-powered Gemini research assistant is now accessible on mobile devices, promising to facilitate access to Audio Overviews. This feature can ingest various sources, including text documents, PDFs, audio, and video content, and synthesize them into a podcast.

How NotebookLM Aims to Simplify Access to AI-Generated Podcasts

First unveiled in 2023, NotebookLM is a tool designed to organize, summarize, and easily query documents, notes, or web-sourced materials, functioning like a personal research assistant. In essence, after ingesting multiple sources submitted by the user, it can generate either a simple or comprehensive summary, or answer questions about the content.

Initially designed for researchers and students, it went relatively unnoticed until the rollout of a feature called Audio Overviews in September 2024. This feature allows for the creation of a podcast where two AI-generated hosts summarize contents, draw connections between topics, and even exchange a few jokes, all with remarkable fluency and accuracy. Initially, NotebookLM only supported English, but since late April, the tool has been available in 50 languages, including French.

Main Features of the NotebookLM App

Available for pre-order since May 2, and initially set to rollout in app stores this Tuesday, the NotebookLM app – which will also be accessible on Android tablets and iPads – is designed to facilitate access and interaction with this powerful feature. Beyond generating podcasts, the first version of the app, which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store, offers several options to its users, according to a blog post shared by Google:

  • Offline Mode: Discussions generated by Audio Overviews can be downloaded for offline listening.
  • Content Sharing: A sharing option will allow easy sending of content to NotebookLM, whether it’s a web page, a file, or a YouTube video.
  • Interact with Hosts: After launching the podcast, users can join the conversation, ask questions to the hosts, or “change the subject” in real-time, as demonstrated in the video below.

In its blog post, Google notes that the NotebookLM app is compatible with devices running iOS 17, Android 10, and later versions.
