New Vibrant Colors Expected for Apple’s Entry-Level MacBook

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce its new entry-level MacBook with an A18 Pro chip in whimsical colors during a “special Apple experience” scheduled for March 4th. Mark Gurman had previously hinted last week that Apple was testing colors such as light yellow, light green, blue, pink, silver, and dark grey, although it was unclear which colors would be finalized. In September, Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned silver, blue, pink, and yellow as potential options.

Possible Color Hints in Event Invitations

Apple may have teased the upcoming color options in the graphic used for its press invitation, which displays a gradient transitioning from yellow to blue via green. On Bloomberg, Mark Gurman confidently stated, “the invitation includes the colors in which the device will be launched.” Instant Digital provided additional insight, suggesting that Apple initially planned this color palette for the M2 chip-based MacBook Air revision launched in 2022 but later decided against it. A year earlier, Jon Prosser had predicted a resurgence of imaginative colors for the MacBook Air, and although it didn’t materialize at the time, his forecast was not necessarily off the mark.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The highly anticipated entry-level MacBook is expected to be the first Apple Silicon computer to feature an iPhone-derived A18 Pro chip rather than an M-class chip. This move could help reduce costs and power consumption. The performance of the A18 Pro chip is reported to be on par with the M1 chip. To further reduce costs, Apple might make other compromises, such as decreasing RAM to 8 GB, incorporating a smaller 12.9-inch screen instead of the 13.6-inch screen found on the MacBook Air, equipping it with USB-C ports that are four times slower at 10 Gbit/s, and possibly removing the keyboard backlight.

During the event, Apple is also expected to launch its MacBook Air M5 alongside high-end versions of MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and potentially even an M5 Ultra variant. This entry-level MacBook is anticipated to be priced well below the 1,000€ mark, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
